Sorry I forgot to delete this thread; I traded a while back for a reel like yours. Thanks for your interest; both are great reels!

Re: Questions: Hardy Reel

They usually sell in the $200 USD range. Yours in in much better condition than most of that age so I'm gonna say it's worth $250 plus. Brass ribbed reel foot is pre 1970's, right hand wind, spare...

Re: Questions: Hardy Reel

Nice condition for age St. John! I have one identical to it (my avatar) that my father left me. He picked it up in the early fifties I think. You may notice that this reel has only one pawl that...

Re: 2015 Yellowstone Angler 5-Weight Shoot-Out

Fun thread; I'll subscribe. I agree on the lines needing to match the rods...that may be more like comparing apples to apples than not imo.

Re: What is your favorite Brand and model fly Rod?

I would have to say Sage Z-axis rods are my favorites right now, having three of them (one single hand and two double hand) with no plans to replace them. Sage got it right with that line of rods I...

Re: What's happening to Hardy

To quote one of my favorite lines from an old movie, that's "an interesting pschological phenomenon". I totally get it though.

Re: Anyone tried the Regal imitation?

Thanks for the wealth of comments gentlemen! I must say I got quite a chuckle out of the "find a new wife she's a cheapskate comment" ; fact is, I'm not sure if it's she or he that is the bigger...

Anyone tried the Regal imitation?

I would pass on this myself but a friend's wife looking to buy a vise for him for Christmas wants to know how these vises hold up (he asked for a Regal Medallion)

Rotatable Fly Tying Vice Vise...

Re: Rods you regret buying...

Regretted buying: Daiiwa 8wt 9'6" two piece for about $42.00 I think, Fenwick HMX 6wt 9' two piece for around $90.00 (I bought this to replace the same rod in an 8.5' but the extra 6 inches ruined...

Re: 20lb OR 30lb Dacron backing on Salmon rig

yes, 30lb for everything; bulk roll of the stuff is cheaper and it is less apt to bind up on the reel like 20lb sometimes does.

Re: Classic....Really?

I definitely prefer classic when it comes to reels but my rods are all pretty modern tapers. I just can't get enough of the old classic Hardys especially, but even their newly built classic style...

Re: Have we passed the 'point of no return' with custom build 2handers?

I just love how the really great rods are available at a steal of a price when the new models come out! I'm glad there are people out there that can afford to buy the newest versions so they can let...

Re: Found an old Sage in my garage

Another reel to look out for on auction is the JW Young made Sage 108m which is heavy enough to balance that rod and fairly inexpensive but a solid built reel.

Re: Redington Sonicdry Waders, Your Opinion?

I've only had one outing with my sonic pro pant waders but so far I'm liking them. I still use my zip front Redingtons (non sonic) but I have to reseal the seams with silicone spray after a few...

Re: Extras - Galvan, SAGE, Hardy, Orvis & Granger

Very nice machined aluminum Hardy reels; you can get a nut cover for them if you look hard or one that will do from an auto accessory store. I am using a 508 on my 9.5' 6wt rod; it's got lots of room...
