Re: Fly line to leader

I'm a fan of the loop to loop connections between the fly line and leader. If your line doesn't have one there are a couple options. One is to nail knot a section of mono to the end of the fly line...

Get in touch with the folks at Angler's All. It is not too far from there and I'm sure they can help you out.

Re: new at this and have some questions

Sounds fine to me, I usually use 12-15 lb mono, sometimes go a bit heavier. As for the backing, folks often use dacron. I don't have experience with braid as backing so don't know if there are...

Re: new at this and have some questions

Welcome to the forum! To answer your questions:

1. Use enough backing to fill the reel. What I do: tape the end of the line to the spool and wind it on the reel. Tape backing to the line and...

Re: Help with my second build

My process for grips: I glue the rings up on the threaded rod before reaming, sand it close to the final dimensions, ream it to fit the blank, then tape up the threaded rod and sand it to final...

Re: The Cheapest

I agree that getting the cheapest simply because it is the cheapest can lead to a disappointment for sure. However, I built a 7'9" 3wt that I LOVE to fish on one of the blanks from Ye Olde English...

Re: The Fly Fishing Lanyard - Pros/Cons

I'm a fan. I've had one for years and there are times I'm very glad to have it. For a couple years I kept my boxes etc in a waist pack and the lanyard held my nippers, hemostats, floatant etc. ...

Re: The Cheapest

I'd add Ye Olde English Fly Shop - both he and the Angler's Roost can get you a blank for around $30 and also carry other supplies you might want for cheap. English Fly Shop gives free shipping once...

Re: Waiting a life time for a rod of a life time.

Personally no, but I also wouldn't spend that kind of money on a rod. I'd spend some of the money on the tools to try to make one myself and end up with an inferior product that I find great joy...
