Re: Troubleshooting the cast...

Trouter,

Try this right now; you don't even have to stand up.

Execute a very strong backcast without a rod, stopping hard. Go for a huge backcast. Notice how your entire forearm bounces...

Re: Big vs Small; new vs. old: heavy vs light

Eastfly,

The only 5 wt I have is not representative of todays rods. It is a limited run of the Sage TCR which was used by all the finalists in the Denver distance casting championship a few years...

Re: Saltwater Flats Leader Design

Though I don't wade for bones anymore, many of the areas I used to fish sported bay grass on the bottom - a very delicate and limber-leafed sea grass that gets picked up very easily on any knot,...

Big vs Small; new vs. old: heavy vs light

The ia_trouter thread about nearly annual new series rods popping up got me to thinking – but on a slightly different track.

I think the new technology and materials are great for the most part...

Re: It's That Time Again, What Was Your Best Fishing Experience of 2014?

Tarpon season 2014 was the best season ever for me, despite the abysmal weather for most of it.

Everyone I went tarpon fishing with caught at least one fish. All were fly fishing. Three caught...

Re: A Fat Wallet Runs Through it - by Richard Cockle

They don't even have to buy BLM land - they can just lease it, with the right connections.

When I lived in the Eagle River valley in Colorado, some hunting club from Texas leased hundreds of...

Re: Bonefishing the Bahamas - November 2014

Great article S&S. Thanks for taking the time to get the pics and write it up.

That clear water and good bones are getting me psyched up. I've got to get some prices together for some friends for...

Re: Tackle Box?

JP,

I favor rationalization to organization. It makes life more interesting.

My buddy called me one night to go sailfishing very early the next morning.

Mistake 1 : He knows my brain does...

Re: Boston area FF'ers, your chance to be a star!

In that case, I might be interested in being the cranky old grandpa.

Re: Who sells Echo fly rod blanks?

I've heard great things about CTS blanks from New Zealand from a number of people on another site.

There is a guy in Boca Raton who makes rods from them. I fished with him one day and he's a...

Re: Sage One 590 new to me

Thanks S&S. What I'm after is good 9 and 10 wts. I'm almost certain I'd be happy with them in the TCX as I've given both weights a few whips in a fly shop - though haven't cast them. They appear to...

Re: Getting a fillet knife

Kicker,
I've never filleted or eaten bream, but I suspect you will lose a whole lot of meat if you do. (added) Some of the old guys here like to fish for grunts, and they filet them. The filets...

Re: Sage One 590 new to me

Now that kind of description I can easily understand. And that (the Anderson preference) is the type of rod I avoid like the plague for salt water whether big fish or medium fish, wind or doldrum. ...

If I were you, I'd get a USGS topographical map even if I bought a GPS with chip. Before you bend or fold it (or even get it) get some clear kitchen shelf liner and stick it on the map - preferably...

Interestingly, I was looking at those Eagle River knives a while back on the internet, Ard, as well as "Knives of Alaska”. I’m going to give them both a call to find out some more info. on what steel...

Re: Salt vs. Xi3 vs. NRX vs. One

Which ever rod you get, if you don't cast them all first, you will either adapt your casting to the rod you selected blind or you won't.

The advantages to casting them if you are relatively...

Re: My New Bass Boat Just Arrived!

Nice boat, Larry ! Next time your buddies borrow it, maybe you could suggest they trim it up a bit more. They might be able to get the whole keel out of the water with just a bit more trim. :D
