Re: Best part of fly tying?

How many times I've finished a fly and realized I forgot to wrap the ribbing on. It's sticking out the back of the fly like a big tail.

Re: Essential Flies

Never fished the Manasquan. I have fished the SBR. Prince Nymphs are always a good choice. Do you tie Soft Hackles? They are always good to have too. Do you know how to tie Iso nymphs? If not I'll...

Re: I was so sick so... I tied

I like the flies. Hope you feel better.

Your lucky you can tie. I was to sick to even tie. My last 5 days off of work I was miserable. So much for vacation.

Re: Essential Flies

HRD gave you some good ones. What rivers are you fishing in NJ? Some of us are from the area and may be able to help with specific patterns.

Re: Alaskan Lady wet fly

That's a very nice fly. Please post the other pix. I'd really like to see them. Wets are very beautiful flies. I'm just getting into tying them.

Re: Bead Head Prince Nymph Recipe

Hey Mosca, have you ever tried the 2488H hook? Any sinking fly I tie thats curved I like this hook. It has a very large gap and alot of weight to it.

Re: What Litespeed size?

I have a Helios 5 wt and the 2.0 balances nice. I would try each reel and see which one balances on it best.

Re: rod choice vs. cost

To me it's what you want. I owned a St Croix Imperial and sold it to my cousin who wanted it. I was fishing with a friend and he let me fish his Z Axis and I loved it. He said my casting improved...

Re: Got a fly tying kit for xmas heres my first flies

They look better than my first flies. If you can keep them on the side. In 3,6,9,12 months go back and look at them. You'll be amazed the difference in the flies.

Re: Tube fly vise recommendation please...

I think I'm going with the HMH. You can get the adapter for the Standard or Spartan for tying tubes for about 60.00 or so.

Re: Metal or Plastic Fly Boxes?

I fish plastic boxes for now. Most are CF and one is a Big Cliff. I keep one for dries one for nymphs and one for streamers. I am going to get a box with the metal clips for this year for my wets.

Re: Fly line for Helios

Thanks for the info. I fish the GPX on my Z Axis. I'll try it first on it.

I may try the Sharkskin Trout or SA Selective Trout. Probably in a WF.

I'll probably do more Spey type casting...

Fly line for Helios

I have a 9' 5wt mid flex Helios and want a good line for it. I'm not sure if a WF or DT line is better for it. I have a Lamson Velocity 2.0 reel on it.

I was thinking of a Trout line or like a Rio...

Re: nymph to dry?

I do it with barbed hooks and never had a problem. My buddy that showed me is a guide and he fishes it this way. I figure if it's good for him, who fishes 3-7 days a week, it's good for me.

Re: nymph to dry?

Maybe its me but I'm not sure of the question.

Do you mean a dry/dropper? If so, I do a clinch knot off the hook bend of the dry. About a 12-16" leader and the nymph.

You can also do a nymph...

Re: Adams fly

I agree with bi visible. I would learn to tie it for technique and then not tie them. I think the parachute pattern is much better. It matches the dry and an emerger. I use poly wing for my posts.
