Re: Few people handle and release trout properly.

Good question. In current if a fish isn't ready to swim it can get taken downstream and into faster water so holding it can let it get strength to get someone safe and hold there till ready. Also...

Re: Colorado Road Trip

My initial thought is the Colorado and Williams Fork. Gore Canyon is beautiful and a great place to fish :)

Re: Entry level reels?

Depending on the style you like I'd do either the Allen ATS or the Orvis Battenkill. Both are great reels backed by great companies.

Re: New Fly Rod Breaks

Sounds like a defect in the graphite. Might have gotten cracked at some point in production / transport etc. I had it happen once to a new blank, a bit up from the grip first time I had it out...

Re: Streamers and Leaders questions.

For leader - Cutthroat sells a streamer leader that I like. You can also use a length of straight mono. Since you don't need a very delicate presentation with streamers (nor do you need as long a...

Re: Who wants to build a rod for me?

Here in the Denver area I'd talk to Kevin at Colorado Custom Fly Rods (http://coloradocustomflyrods.com/) (in Littleton) or Dave Winslow at Winslow Rods...

Re: an endless journey

Nice! A great thing about the internet and fly fishing is that we can make it as complex as we want! I'll go down the rabbit hole from time to time. Often learn a few things for sure and it can be...

Re: some advise and ideas

Sorry to hear that man. Sounds like a very rough year. I wondered if you know some folks you can visit / go fishing with. Not only hitting a good destination to fish, but perhaps a night or two...

Re: Looking for a fly rod builder located between Denver and Fort Collins (CO)

Check out Colorado Custom Rods. He's a bit south of your work route - in Littleton - but Kevin is a great guy and great rod builder. He'd treat you right.

Re: Banana?

Total myth. However I won't bring a banana in someone else boat anymore than I'd say "looks like a quiet night" to a nurse :)

Re: New to CO

Welcome! Welcome to both the sport and to Denver. I confess that I have not fished in metro Denver - I figure if I have time to fish I'm going to head for the mountains. That said I know there are...

Re: Wet wading pants and sock recommendations?

I'm waiting for Abel to come out with Grateful Dead neoprene booties and I'll pull the trigger. For only $1500 they'd be a steal :)

Re: Where to go guys?

Check out the Huron River above Ann Arbor - which is on your way to Detroit. GREAT smallmouth bass fishing. Some of the Metro Parks are very wade-able as are other sections of the river. It can be...

Re: Fixing a broken rod - any tips or advice?

Ouch that stinks. Some people do repair graphite rods, but I haven't. I've broken some rods I've built and either get a new section or just replace the rod. Perhaps someone will weigh in with good...

Re: new member first fly rod build

Great start. I like the colors! Personally I find simpler better so a basic color with a trim is perfect in my book. I'd tend to end the wraps closer to the end of the guide foot.

Re: Annual Wisconsin Trip - Musky

Thanks! And you are right about that - not bad for musky fishing. If I was doing it solo I'd be pumped by the follows alone :) They can be elusive fish. My buddy is accustom to more action given...
