Re: Hardy Proaxis 9wt

Go above to Saltwater Articles. I posted earlier today about the Chard Tropical Punch. Also the Cortland Liquid Crystal Blue is as if made for this rod.

Re: Zenith 9' #5 Line Choice

I tend to use the 1/2 heavy Gold on my 9'/#5 but the 8 1/2'/#4 seems to prefer the SA straight size versions...go figure and go experiment.

Re: New Flats Fly Lines

My favorite line on S4s#8, and I have tried several, is Airflo's Tropical Ridge Bonefish. The rod balances well with a Hatch 7+ mid-arbor and a (Melrose built) Ross F1.

Re: New Flats Fly Lines

Two Saltwater Flats Lines – A Rare Comparative Opportunity

I have previously written about Capt. Bruce Chard’s “Grand Slam” line; a unique design produced to his specifications by SA under their...

Re: Radian is perhaps the best 5 weight on the market for pure fishability

Well, I consider Zenith to be medium fast, deeper flexing and slower than either ONE or Radian...but no slouch. I have never checked out the Zenith #6 but I'll bet its sweet...and on sale. We fished...

Re: SA VPT Fly Line

Our own "easterncaster" recommends this line for the Delaware and uses it in casting demos too. It is sort of SA's take on the Wullf Triangle taper with more belly and rear taper but a long,...

Re: SA Sharkskin Trout Taper

I like this Ultimate Trout Taper a lot. SA has it available in the Sharkskin (gone), Textured (formerly Trout Stalker), new Sharkwave and the original, smooth Mastery Expert Distance Taper (my...

Re: Radian is perhaps the best 5 weight on the market for pure fishability

Yes, we switched off under several differing conditions. Preferred NRX? Really, I thought they were both top 6-weight rods but different. And understand we both had ONE#5's with us too. Radian...

Re: WARNING: New Labels Required

No, that was me who brought up the sometimes virtues of heavier, glass scrimed rods.

Re: WARNING: New Labels Required

Modern G.Loomis rods really do have a label warning of their conductivity of electricity, lightning in particular. And now (though I have yet to see one), in addition to Abel, Hatch is introducing a...

Re: Hatch Fanatic 7 plus or Lamson Vanquest 7/8?

Hatch 7+ because it has a stacked, multi element sealed drag, is far more rigged, has a captive, threaded, spool release cap, nicer handle and has a correct spool width for intuitive uniform line...

Re: Help me choose...Zenith or Zenith

I have not cast the specific rods you are asking about. My two Zeniths are the 9'/#5 and 8 1/2'/#4 and I have the Proaxis in #8...a much faster, more powerful rod and I am sure the 7-weight is too. I...

Re: Scott Heads - Any S4s Guys Moving Up To Meridian?

Well, I'm a long-time Scott fan too but not exclusively so. I am a "new" rod fan too so I am excited to test cast the Meridian...please let us know what you learn next time you visit Montrose.

Thank you, wjc, I think your twinkle in the eye comes through here in your posts. And you are one of "us" hard bitten types, I know, as it is you who goes down in his shop and machines larger, more...

Re: Radian is perhaps the best 5 weight on the market for pure fishability

Boy is that the truth. I've always opined a lot can be learned on the lawn and it can, particularly line match up, but only actual fishing reveals a rods character and parameters. It took me a month...

Re: Scott Heads - Any S4s Guys Moving Up To Meridian?

I too am very happy with my S4s#8. Of course, I have yet to see much less test a Meridian which I look forward to. It also has to be compared to SALT of course.

Re: The bottom line pretty much ?

I consider Silver's technical posts to be valuable in providing data most of us lack the expertise to compile in explaining how something like swing weight is calculated and why it is relevant.

Re: The bottom line pretty much ?

Well, I paraphrased Garrison Keillor on the "above average" but meant it. That does not nor can never mean "equal in experience and skill level", we are a diverse community in this regard which is as...

Re: The bottom line pretty much ?

I concur with Cool that if we turned the rod clock back 30 years, so today I'd be fishing Scott and Orvis #5's (that Orvis Western 8'9"/#5 was terrific), still am occasionally fishing the 8'/#4...
