Re: Sunglasses
Well at my age no one looks at me and thinks 'Dorky.' Acually where they really 'shine,' pun intended, is with side glare. The wide side frames are a treat.

Re: Sunglasses
Just my .02 cents, but use prescription glasses already? Just get 'clip ons' for most applications or "Cocoons" ($50.00) 'over glasses.' Very light, very functional and 'cheap as chips' for a very...

Re: What do I really need in a fly reel?
So yes! Old (and I do mean OLD) addage is you set your drag for half the break strength of your tippet. Point being is the line going through the guides adds a hell of a lot more.
This is really...

Re: Cast piling up
In the simplest of terms a 'cast' is just a transfer of energy from the rod to the fly. The more line you've got between the two the faster 'gravity' will work on the cast. I suspect you're bouncing...

Re: Second Alaskan Volcano starts to 'perk off.'
Would be cool if there were; I'll give it a Google.
Fred
Edit: Doesn't seem to be. Aircraft fly-by'd and Sat photos is all I could find. There was one cool web sight where you're getting real...

Re: Cast piling up
Very good answer's above but by piling up I assume at the very end of your cast? If that's the case 'Gravity' has you by the shorts with that light head/short rod.
Two things you can do to...

Hear you Dave, over 50 years of driving I've only had to be there three times. But needed darned near...

Re: Gun's!! Who's got em, who leaves em??
Indeed Nick, but the probability of 'they' walking a river beach is pretty rare. At least here. An old car drives up with a load of 'young men' and they don't have any fishing gear? I'll pay...

Re: Junior High Fly Fishing Club
One of the first things (I've funded two in the past, one actually in the UK) is where do you get your gear, feathers, rods, etc. If you have a local fly club(s) they are a invaluable resource.

Re: Gun's!! Who's got em, who leaves em??
Very interesting idea, totally new on on me. Bear spray is just an up graded pepper spray (I think). But a shot of bug spray sounds like it would really hurt. Hate Wasp's; they go right at me. If...

Re: Gun's!! Who's got em, who leaves em??
I think to carry, or not, is a function of State Laws and where you're going. I'm sure (even if Oregon is an 'open carry State') there are very few places that it would be needed if just fishing....

Re: First Aid Kit?!.....
Don't carry one on me as it's rare that I'm that far away from the Jeep. There, I have a massive one behind the drivers seat. Things almost the size of a brief case.
On the surface it sounds like...

Re: Hook Color / Tone
I tie (Salmon and Steelhead) patterns on gold and silver all the time. The little bit of 'flash' seems to help if the tie has lots of colour in it. A dull/black fly gets a dark hook.

Re: Fish alone or with friends?
I think 'alone' or 'with someone' has more to do with how close you're together while fishing. Fish with someone frequently, but we'll normally be 50 or more yards apart on the beach.
One of us...

Ahhh, the old Plug's. About as bullet proof as you could get. Fished for trout to King Salmon with those things. Only 'out gunned' once and that was a very large King. Fish actually bent the...

Re: Ever hear a CRASH and do a what the hell?
The mix is dependent on how often you want them to come back to the feeder. The higher the sugar content, the less they need to visit. If the weather is cold/wet up goes the sugar ration. But the 4 -...
