Re: For Those Who Need Fishing Pliers;

I'm sympathetic of the small fly shops, but retail is a tough business no matter what your selling. I don't bother with the only fly shop in my area because they cater to the guys flying to Bahamas...

Re: Somerset Show 2014: Reels

S&S, thanks for the in-depth write-up. It's interesting to me how many new reel companies seem to have cropped up over the past, say, 4 years. Is there room in the market for them all? How many...

Mastery Textured vs. Airflo Ridge Nymph line size

I'm using Mastery Textured Trout on my Redington CT 4wt, and that rod just loves that line. It really casts beautifully.

I just picked up a CT 5wt, and while I'd like to get the Textured Trout...

Re: Stopped by the Allen booth in Marlboro

They're based not far from me, and I keep thinking I should go visit and support a local company. But I hate to without having a little spending money, and my banker, she's keeping the money in the...

Re: Fishing High Mountain Lakes

I've only had the privilege of fishing a mountain lake twice, and one of those times (Potato Lake north of Durango CO) parachute Adams was the ticket. Unfortunately, there was very little room to...

Re: Vise decision

I started with a Griffin Mongoose as my first vice, then tied on my buddy's Renzetti Traveler for about 3 years. This Christmas I looked hard at Dyna-King and the more expensive Renzetti, but after...

Re: Startup Idea, Need help!

Much good advice has been offered, but I just want to reiterate this: flies are a low margin business.

Go read the story of Idylwilde - fly manufacturing can be a cutthroat business.

If...

Re: Sling Packs-like the idea but.....

Mrs. Santa gave me a Patagonia sling pack for Christmas, and I used it for the first time yesterday.

Bottom line: I love it!

I love having everything behind me, and I never noticed it during...

Re: any of you all use ECHO rods

I can't speak for the Echo trout rods, the lighter weight, but I have a 7wt ION that I love. It has the backbone to throw decent size bass streamers.

Re: Yellowstone Angler - 2014 8 Weight Shootout

Several thoughts:

1. I agree with some comments about rods inexplicably moving up or down the ranking when they didn't change at all. This seems a little odd to me too. I'd like to see these...

Sage 2200 reviews?

I need a replacement reel for my 5wt, and I was looking for more information online about the new Sage 2200. There's not many reviews.

Anyone here use one? Thoughts? Likes and dislikes?

Prime rib, risotto and roasted broccoli, and some...

Re: Please help - talked my self OUT of a rod

I believe this is the result of too many hobbies. I don't really need a new rod, and I would like a new stabilizer for my Hoyt, a new shotgun (Beretta), an upgraded scope for my Savage, and.......

Please help - talked my self OUT of a rod

My man card or fly fishing card may be in jeopardy. I went to Cabela's yesterday with birthday cash in hand to possibly buy a new 6wt LSi rod that's on sale. It's really a nice rod, well finished,...

Re: Vest, chest pack, side bag...

I've been using a Fishpond chest pack, the one that comes with a backpack. When I'm on an all day hike-and-fish trip, this works great. I can carry my lunch, a hydration pack, an extra rod, rain...

Click reel - Battenkill or Drift?

So I have a "need" for a classic click reel for my Redington CT 9' 4wt. The cupboard is a little bare right now (more so than usual), so I'm trying to decide between the Orvis Battenkill or the...

Re: Orvis Battenkill II Click and Pawl Reel Review

Perfect timing on the review. Thank you.

I'm looking for a new reel for my Redington CT 4wt, and the price and Orvis reputation have made this very attractive. I think I'll place an order for one...

Re: What have you been tying today?

It's summer time, so I've had terrestrials on my mind. Been tying for almost 5 years and never tried a meaty hopper pattern. Finally took the plunge, got some foam from J Stockard today, and this was...

Re: looking to buy a used 4wt

The Redington CT was my first thought as well. I picked one up on closeout at Cabela's, and have only cast it in the back yard. It has a nice feel, and I can't wait until August when I can cast...

Got the bass fishing itch, so I've been tying up a few Bouface in black and purple.

Re: 8-Weight Fly Reel Challenge

Buy the Hydros. That's what I use on my 7wt and 8wt, and it has just about the stopping power of the Mirage. For the price, I believe it's the best reel on the market.

Re: 99 and TCX on sale

A friend of mine has a 9wt TCX, and we've used it bass fishing. Well, tried. It's an ultra-fast rod. Get the timing right and it will fling bugs a country mile. Get the timing off, it the bug...
