Re: Fishing Bishop

I tell clients that pinched barbs are for us to get out of our skin easier....

Re: Big Brown Trout

Ard, it looked like father-son pic to me.
The gear, clean vest, matching waders, and a small plastic net, was a give away.
As was the grip and grin. (I've shot a bunch of those.)
Just starting...

Re: The cast...specifically the last 2 seconds!

Wanted to say Art's post on mending was the best info I've read on here!
Let alone the practice of swimming flies up close....not a bit silly....
And, I also wanted to reinforce what busbus...

Re: Reel to balance my Greys Streamflex Xf2 3wt 10ft?

If you haven't tried Czech nymphing, you should.....especially if you are a numbers guy.....
I have Greys 11ft ft 3wt, and use a 5wt Galvan reel.
Partly for balance, partly for the larger arbor,...

Re: One Fly Challenge

As I understand THE one fly contest, it's tie as many as possible in the hour before the contest starts. One style of fly only.
That way they feel confident in the fly, they chose it.
Now, go cast...

Re: Storing tippet

Yikes, it's a "Tackle Buddy", you can get then in most fishing shops. Or Cabela's....
Hook the dropper on the little rubber hook and wind the tippet up, them pierce the rubber ridge with the big fly...

Re: How long does it take a trout to start feeding again after feeling the hook?

Fred, we still "rest pools"........

Yes the occasional trout will eat twice....but don't bet on it.
I think walking on and returning later is best.
200 hopeful drifts to a fish isn't...

This is my solution....
Pre-tied leaders, or whole leaders.....Have used it for years.

Re: Rio Skagit Max Short

I'm not hip to the Airflow, so not going to compare.....
But the power max will huck your stuff.
Nothing fancy, just rear back and let fly.
Short stroke, but lots of distance....
I find I like to...

Re: Need Advice About Single-Hand Spey

RR99, I'm with Ard, you can do the single-hand thing with almost any rod..
It's the line that really helps it happen though.
I've taught the spey cast to my friends and students, and they all...

Re: Icey Mud flow..

I haven't fished Mudd crk, but have fished the McCloud (Pictured) many times.
It was world class fishing........World class poison oak, and rattle snakes too, during Summer.
And it will be fishy...

Re: trying to conquer what seems near impossible

Andy, that IS a toad!!!
Isn't it funny we yanks are getting fussy about course fishing......
Many here will fish any way but upstream with a dry for trout. (Not that we don't do that too...)
But...

Icey Mud flow..

Didn't know exactly where to post this, it's not yet on the news...
Mud creek flows to the Mccloud river CA. just another way nature shapes a beautiful trout stream...
No need to watch it all, but...

Re: trying to conquer what seems near impossible

Clevers on it...but no hard sell...
You are right about moving it a skosh......(Little bit.) right when they get near.
Try and let them "find it" as they move along......it appeals to there nature....

Re: trying to conquer what seems near impossible

Andy, always good to get feed back from the experts.....and our roots.
But Biscuits????
I barely kept reading...then got to the maribou part, and breathed a sigh of relief.
You had me worried....

Re: trying to conquer what seems near impossible

For those who think trout aren't tough enough....Carp are the next level.
Try Googling Carp crack for starters.
See if there's somebody nearby with the same fixation. It's becoming popular.
The...

Re: Mistakes....

As a licensed fish councilor I get to see all kinds.....
A clinch knot takes 15 seconds, 10 seconds to add a split shot, a thingamabobber takes 5 seconds to adjust.
Takes even less time, to not...

Re: Cali Trout?

Milt, Super nice to offer.....
But, plenty of opportunities?
Maybe I should have stayed there?
You would say less than a hour?
I may look you up if I'm down that way.
Think snow.

Re: Mistakes....

Nicely put...
I always say, we should always watch how others fish, then, don't do any of that....
There is a huge difference between wanting a fish, and wanting to learn to fish.

Re: Cali Trout?

bmbailes, that is considered Socal, and is about classic high desert.
Little fly stuff close by. Check the south west region for local info.
I'd guess about 1.5 to 2 hours would get you to "water"....

Re: adding weight to nymphs/strike indicators

Jason, we may have 400 fish per mile, not that fishy really......
The challenge is to take the game to them, not wait for them to come play with us.
They are in there though......
Fishing here is...

Re: adding weight to nymphs/strike indicators

1st, I think any time we use a Ralph Cutter video (on utube), we should bow in his direction......because he doesn't get a dime.
The guy has spent years underwater for our benefit. He didn't post...
