Re: BATS on a Fly

Fishing at dusk once and a bat flew right into my line during my cast, startle me. I was also saltwater fishing once, just floating shrimp on a hook. Noticed my line start going up, looked up and a...

I love pretty much anything DIY, its fun making things for yourself and you normally save some money too. I make my own furled leaders with mono, like this...

Re: Constantly amazed by this fly

Dear lord, could catch a monster of a bass on that thing. Although, I think if I bought one it would go in a case and on a shelf or in a frame and on the wall. Too beautiful to use!

Re: Video showing how to use a Furled Leader for Dry Fly Fishing.

What is the typical weight rating on these? Would you recommend using these for bass fishing? Especially around cover.

Re: Hanging up in Lily Pads

I was thinking the exact thing! This fly is perfect for what I want to do. Unfortunately I haven't started trying my own flies yet.

Re: Hanging up in Lily Pads

Just occurred to me for you fly tiers, change the color to greens, add some rubber legs and boom you got a nice weedless frog.

Hanging up in Lily Pads

So I'm pretty new to bass on the fly. I love fishing in the weeds and lily pads with my bait caster with 40lb braid so I wanted to try some thing similar with my fly rod. I know I can't pull my fly...

Re: BIG Bass fly casting help

I just got a Cabela's TLr 9' 8wt and Cabela's Prestige Premier reel. I mostly fish for bass with this rod and its great. I use cabela's prestige plus line because thats what came with the combo. For...

Re: Casting into the wind

I'm a beginner as well and was faced with a pretty strong headwind the other day. What I found to work the best was to lower my casting arm closer to the water and add a double haul. I also found...

Re: Thinking about Upgrading :D

I don't have any experience with those rods/reels but I did just upgrade from my cheap combo setup. I went with the Cabela's TLr rod and and Caleba's Prestige Premier reel, I've had it for about two...

Re: Furled leader

I've been using some of these twisted leaders for some time now. They work pretty good and you never have to worry about the leader shortening. I connect the fly line to the leader with a loop to...

Re: Help with getting rod together

Just did a quick Google image search for 'tfo bob clouser ferrules' and it appears that that's about how far they are supposed to go in.

Re: Help with getting rod together

I agree. Perhaps try sticking a small screw driver or stick into the female end to give you an estimate of how far it should go.

Re: High-dollar spinning reels?

Third for shimano. I have a sahara (got it a few years ago when they were $50, now they're $80) and a Sienna ($30) I think they are both great reels, very smooth.

Re: leader/tippet twisting

Thanks for the help guys. I just got the 8wt setup yesterday and was using an 7.5ft 4x leader with 6lb mono tippet (trilene smooth casting) as this is what the guy at the store recommended. I'll try...

Re: Little tricks to share

I just thought of this, should work pretty good. For rods without alignment marks, you can put the rod together and then mark each piece with some nail polish. This will give you some nice marks to...

leader/tippet twisting

Today while fishing my new setup I was experiencing some line twist where I tied tippet to the leader. Actually caused the line to break during my cast. Could this have anything to do with the fly I...
