Re: Morning with the 3wt

I have 5 or 6 3wt rods, and never really felt "under gunned" with them in most of the ponds & lakes I fish.

Right now I'm trying out a new Redington CT 5wt, but in all honesty several of my 3wt...

Re: Back brace

The VA recently fitted me with a back brace for my lower back. (L4 & L5 are 13mm out of alignment.) It does help some with lower back pain, but unfortunately, over the years I've also broken C2 and...

Re: Radian loose sections. Help.

I have a $30.00 Shakespeare rod that I have to wax the ferrules on to keep it tight. Not a huge surprise for a $30.00 rod to have flaws.
If it were an $800.00 rod it would be on its way back to the...

make the most of the opportunity

This has been a rough month to try to get any fishing in so far. Wife & son went on a short vacation and left me at home to re-finish hardwood floors. After a day of running a floor sander I somehow...

Re: Advice on a new bass outfit.

I rarely fish specifically for bass but when I do I have an old Sage Graphite II 9'6" 8wt I use. If I were buying a new outfit I would think seriously about a 10wt.

Re: Eagle Claw Featherlite...Overlining?

I'd try a wf6 on it first. I've gone down a line size on Featherweight rods (3wt on a 4/5 rod), but never tried going up a weight because I never saw a need to try it.

Re: $2485 will almost get you the "essentials" to fly fish

Wish I could afford all he recommends. Doubt I'd catch any more fish, but I sure could inflate my chest and brag about what I caught them with. :frogdance

I do take issue with a few of his...

Re: In Town Jordan River, UT

Quite a variety on the fly - Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!

I've never caught a turtle on a fly (yet), but I've had them bite a chunk out of a foam strike indicator. What fly would you recommend for...

hot afternoon at the lake

And I'm saying hot as in temperature, not the bite.

Decided to try the new Redington CT 9'0" 5wt again, so I headed to the local lake this afternoon.

Strung the rod and tied on a...

Re: Anybody furl their own leaders?

Not a true "furled" leader, but I make my own from mono fishing line using a method I found on YouTube.

Only thing I do differently is to tie a...

you should have seen the one that got away

As usual my fishing report is about the one that got away.

Yesterday evening it was threatening more rain, the creeks are pretty well all close to flood stage, and even the local lake...

Re: Caught my first bass on the fly today...

Exactly the reason I picked up a new 5wt. I like the 2 & 3wt rods for bluegill fishing, but even a light wind can make a cast go places I never dreamed a fly could go.

I've been wanting a decent quality 5wt rod for some time now. Not wanting to invest too much money (I plan to keep it in my truck), but something from a known company with a good warranty. Found a...

Copperheads are the only poisonous ones we have where I live, but if I travel 15 miles east there are a few rattlesnakes. Both are rare, though.
The snake I usually encounter when fishing is the...

Re: First time on the water today!

I use a double surgeon knot for the tippet and a Davey knot for the fly. Quick & easy for aging eyes, and if something has to break it's usually just a fly lost.

Re: Any Newly Retired, or Semi-Retired, Fly Fishermen Out There?

I decided to draw Social Security at age 62 (I'll be 65 in November) because I had a son (age 12 at that time) who is also eligible for a benefit until he turns 18. His benefit is large enough to...
