The thing about fly fishing early on in ones career .......is it feels like a pile up at a major intersection. But it does get...

Milt, Super nice to offer.....
But, plenty of opportunities?
Maybe I should have stayed there?
You would say less than a hour?
I may look you up if I'm down that way.
Think snow.

Mistakes....

A challenge I apply to myself, is to get it right, the first time I try something..
Fly fishing has been disappointment in that respect.....
If I had a dollar for every mistake I've made on the...

Re: adding weight to nymphs/strike indicators

Jason, we may have 400 fish per mile, not that fishy really......
The challenge is to take the game to them, not wait for them to come play with us.
They are in there though......
Fishing here is...

Re: adding weight to nymphs/strike indicators

1st, I think any time we use a Ralph Cutter video (on utube), we should bow in his direction......because he doesn't get a dime.
The guy has spent years underwater for our benefit. He didn't post...

Re: Living outdoors

As a climber/outdoor guy I'm coming up on the point where I have spent almost half my life sleeping on the ground/outside, and I still enjoy it............but nearing "adult hood" I find being...

Re: Leader tying question?

On small spooky water, I'll use the amnesia tip as my "indy" when fishing dries or shallow swinging of soft hackle......
The 20lb Amnesia is stiff enough to help turnover too.
I really like the...

Re: Living outdoors

Labrador dude!
Great minds think alike.....
Used my 12ft work trailer for play one time, and sold my small camp trailer. I left the tool lockbox inside for added security. Not for bears.
With my...

Re: Leader tying question?

I try to keep it simple...and can't do the math....
But I'm with Silver on this, although I haven't needed 40 lb for turnover up to 8wt.
With a lite dryfly leader I don't need a very stiff butt,...

Re: Leader tying question?

Todd, you are on the right track....remember to lick them and stick them.....
Fishing a dry, the leader doesn't need a super heavy butt, unless as you suggested, it is a big fly (popper etc.). 20 lb...

Not putting them down.....
Just heard a few things......and the rep locally has been unavailable.
Thought I'd pass it on.

Re: Greys XF2 Streamflex 7'-6", 4wt - Opinions?

Mike.......I'd wait and check to see if they are still a viable company.
What good is a warranty if the company isn't around......
I bought one last year.......casts OK for the price, but it's not...

Re: Fly Shop Owners?

I feel sorry for beginners starting out (or seasoned guys) without a good shop nearby.
Was lucky to be introduced to an owner in Modesto who walked me through it all.
(He stayed late too.)
If he...

Many styles of fishing......
But snagging isn't one.
That's harvesting.......no sport in it. (The fish have no choice.)
It's no wonder that there are so few Salmon left if it's still socially...

The Drake feels like a verbal mosh pit....(The magazine is truly great! Why isn't the website?).
Because everybody's measuring their appendages, and stroking......or bashing.
It's like we can't...

Way too much area to cover.....from Nocal to the east side is a drive....It's 8hrs from the Trinity river to Truckee, another 4hr to Mammoth Lakes.
Unless you are in...

Re: Hook size/fly weight vs. rating of rod to 'do the job.'

Fred, not sure I understand the question......
The line for each wt has enough mass to throw a sz 2 hook, but not the same bulk.....
I tie some stuff that's almost the size of my hand for my 5wt...
