Re: NRX LP or standard NRX

Franz,

You should drop by and give them a cast! You'll most likely enjoy the NRX LP (http://www.tridentflyfishing.com/g-loomis-nrx-lp-lite-presentation-fly-rod.html) based on what you've just...

Re: Line for NRX-LP 4wt?

Any standard 4wt line will work well on that rod. For dry flies, I'd look at the Rio Trout LT. If you prefer a slower rod, you could go up a half size to a GPX.

Re: Helios 2

I'd go with the Tip Flex. It's not overly fast, but performs very well when asked :D

Re: Scott M Series 9' 5 weight

My understanding of the Scott M (http://www.tridentflyfishing.com/scott-m-fly-rod.html) is that they are built off of the most popular rods in the custom shop program. So the 5 and 6wts would be...

Re: norcal steelhead rod help

Red - Either one will work and those are the two most common sizes for steelhead-specific rods. I'm not familiar with either of those rivers, but if there are bigger fish and/or salmon, I'd consider...

Re: 10ft or Switch?

Mostly dries... I'd go with a single hander.

Re: 10ft or Switch?

Switch/Spey rods excel at lots of casting and swinging.

Go switch if:
- You don't have a lot of back-casting room
- You like to spey cast
- You only nymph/dry fly fish upstream (mending a...

Re: Reel to balance my Greys Streamflex Xf2 3wt 10ft?

I too use the 11ft 3wt. I prefer a 5-6 oz reel on it so that you don't have to fight the tip.

Sage Accel Fly Rod Review

Sage’s 2nd most popular rod introduction for 2015 is the all new Accel. The Accel replaces the VXP in Sage’s lineup and is built with Gen 5 technology, just like the old, but still popular, Z-Axis....

Re: Trout Fly Rod Arsenal

The obvious gap in your lineup (for trout fishing applications) is a small stream rod or a dedicated nymphing rod. Both will definitely add to your enjoyment, but will take away from the usefulness...

Re: Did I make a mistake?

Probably. You might find it too limp to cast in the FL heat. If you're walking and wading, you might be OK, but on a boat the deck will be much hotter.

Re: Line recommendation

AKS -

Silvers - will depend on how you want to present. You'll want a floating line with a bunch of different depth tips. Rio Versatip is very popular, but you can get away with a floating line,...

Re: Scott vs. Winston

At face value, they are similar. Both are 'independent' rod companies, both made in the USA, both very well made. However, if you dig a little deeper, the personalities of these rod companies...

Re: Sage ACCEL

I had the chance to cast the Accel. I'd say it's more similar to the VXP than the Z-axis. A nice med-fast rod that's going to be great at dries, but not as accurate/light as the Circa and not as fast...

Re: Loomis NRX LP?

Hi John,

The LP is definitely a much softer rod than the 'standard' NRX. It makes a pretty nice all-arounder (particularly if you throw a lot of dries), but don't expect it to be a super distance...
