Re: Trout Fly Identification?

If it's the same package as the one I bought, all of these alleged "dry flies" are tied with cheaper hen hackle. From my limited knowledge, that means they'll perform best as wet flies.

Hen...

Re: Trout Fly Identification?

Okay, maybe I'm wrong...

I hope I am....

That looks suspiciously like the "dry fly value pack" I once purchased at Wal Mart:o

Say it isn't so!!

Hooks that will dissolve more quickly in a fish's bloodstream if it's released after being deep-hooked. Not a fly fishing issue, really, but a conservation issue IMO.

Last I read on the matter,...

Swept Hackle Wingless All-Purpose Fly.

Used to be in the Beginning Fly Tying Section of Fly Anglers Online, iirc, but attempts to find it in the last couple of months have failed, and my saved...

Re: vest or packs

I've got an old Plano belly pack that I've been using for spin/baitcast fishing since '98. If I could find another like it I'd try it out for fly fishing. As it is, I have a vest for the fly gear,...

Re: Eel,s

What part of the country are you in? I'm thinking there's a few different possibilities but they'll vary according to climate/region.

For example, down South, you might be seeing some of the...

Re: Hardest fly for you to tie.

I haven't tied anything in a couple of years, but the Elk Hair Caddis gave me some fits. Trying to wind the wire over the abdomen without tying down the hackle is crazy-making on the first few...

Re: flyfishing with bats

You know that thing they teach in the eastern United States about watching for the "first robin of Spring"? Doesn't apply to northern Nevada, as we have some robins year-round. I have noticed,...

Re: Does it end?

Look on the bright side. Fly tying is, IME, much easier to do than actual fly fishing. Just buy a few hooks and a squirrel tail, steal some of your wife's embroidery floss, and find a recipe for...

Re: How are the Water Levels Where You Live?

Water levels on the Truckee (and thus on Pyramid and Tahoe) look to be normal for this time of year. Same on the West Walker River down in Mono County, CA as of last week.

The Walker and...

Howdy, all.

I just picked up the fly rod again after a two year hiatus from all fishing. I've never managed to get the knack of fly casting but do seem to know how to match hatches for NorCal and...

Re: Out And About In Southeast Idaho

Kelly,

Is that a bull trout? I'm only asking because I've never seen one in person but have visited Jarbidge, NV where a controversy about one strain of that fish centers.

Beautiful fish,...

Even though it will wear off after a few times putting the rod...

Re: Favorite trout water in WV, OH, IN, IL, IA, SD, WY, MT, ID, OR, CA?

Hey, Oryontheroad,

For your return trip, you might consider coming up the eastern Sierra via US 395. Hit the West Walker and Little Walker rivers (and maybe Topaz Lake or Twin Lakes) on the CA...
