Honestly I would just use barbless hooks and gently remove the hook without removing the fish from the water. Nets aren't really necessary for small fish like you describe. Good Luck

I have used the Wulff TT lines for a long time I really like the way they roll cast and mend. Having the taper that it does just transfers the energy while roll casting and mending line on the water...

I'm not very good at mathematics but 3 percent is not a lot of fish returning to the ocean. So sad that the fishery isn't valued more by California.

When I nymph/indicator fish I will mostly roll cast over hand casting is difficult with that type of rig. I would suggest practicing your roll casting on a pond or lake without a fly.
