Re: The rude Alaskans

It was unnerving. I don't scare too easily but with the water down it's like meeting a jet boat on a creek because that is all the navigable water there in reality. Ard's style of adventure does...

Thanks JP, I enjoy seeing PICs and stories from the other part of the world.

Re: Alaskan Trip Thread 2015

Yup, he'll net a 15" bow with intensity, like it's your first fish ever. And it's damn handy having a guide that is 6'-5".

Re: Alaskan Trip Thread 2015

I do what I can to keep the man out of the free soup line. :)

Seriously though he does work very hard. Any description would just come up short. All the scouting and making multiple long road...

Re: The rude Alaskans

I am just glad Ard talked me out of starting the trip on Bullchitna River. We wore the little river out and I just wanted to see some new water. And indeed I did lol. The place is scary with all...

Re: Alaskan Trip Thread 2015

The AK Assassin tube fly. I believe it is a Jaybo tie.

Re: want to start flyfishing

Welcome to the forum. I understand what you are saying. I would not enjoy chasing bluegills on a rod appropriate for a carp. If this hobby sticks you will have more than one rod before you know...

Re: The rude Alaskans

Yes you can get seclusion in AK but it takes some work, money, or a little of both. Seclusion is what Ard does best. It requires a float plane, near bullet proof boat or a very long hike. For my...

Re: Alaskan Trip Thread 2015

AK Assassin tube fly. I have fished a total of 8 days with Ard and used only three patterns total for cold water species. I could humor myself and empty a fly box but he scouts so hard it seems...

Re: Alaskan Trip Thread 2015

In the next episode I catch his big sister, and Ashton lands a small bo. Then things go south again. But I better enjoy my last day of Anchorage tourism first. I got a really cool hat to share...

Re: 10 days in Anchorage. What to do?!?!

Good advice. Ard (hardyreels) is on the river again this week but he will get back to you when he can. October is getting late but he can probably find some nice trout weather permitting.

Re: Alaskan Trip Thread 2015

Day two starts out bad. 6AM is the legal start of King fishing. The river is still and nothing positive is going on. The sun rises and it is going to be a hot clear day. My confidence wanes and...

Alaskan Trip Thread 2015

Last years thread was well received so I thought I would do it in the same style. It will take me days to finish it. We fly home tonight. I'll give you the bottom line up front. It was a...

Re: The rude Alaskans

I am sure most of you guys have seen worse. I have not, and they were clearly naive by their friendly demeanor. I suspect they are used to a fishing derby pond atmosphere. I know these folks are...

Re: Weedy Pond on Sunny Hot Day HELP

My local ponds and lakes get weed choked bad about now. Oxygen goes away and fly fishing can seem impossible. Here low light conditions are best by a wide margin. Casting the deepest edge of the...

The rude Alaskans

I will share a proper Alaskan trip thread soon after I get home if not later tonight. It was certainly a challenging trip that had some highlights. It also had some low lights and the story that...

While you are waiting you might visit stripersonline.com There is a very extensive thread on Rio OB vs OBS on 8-11WT rods. It's long but there is discussion of tips and leader, casting techniques...

re: Wyoming: "Small, Medium or Large (you're choice)" Creek Fishing

Thanks for sharing Larry. Looks like the ladies had fun. That almost reminds me of a small Driftless creek.

Or not. ;)

Re: Sage and rio to sell direct

Not like I have any insider knowledge but it's fairly normal arrangement in modern retail. I have read that Simms did this. You can't grow if you stick your head in the sand and bet your entire...

Re: Sage and rio to sell direct

They will compensate the closest dealer like Simms does or potentially lose their fly shop shelf space. They aren't likely to do anything to cause that anytime soon.

Re: Carp Line

If the forum clowns keep it on the front page you're bound to get an intelligent response eventually. :)

I would proceed with the gear you own in the absence of a very compelling argument. ...

Re: Sage and rio to sell direct

I believe they will pay a royalty to the dealers in the sales district that sell their product line. Longer term it isn't hard to see where this might go.

Are you completely out of your mind? What if the carp found out? :)

Free bump Hans. I am now a little curious myself as I intend to try it this year. If not a standard WFF, I would think a...
