Lucky you - I loved those first weeks tying flies! Still brings back happy memories. Mind you cost me a few grades at school!

Ps. Dont buy a kit. Choose the flies you want to tie and get the very...

Everything is as it should be as far as I can see. I tested as normal member and worked fine. What browser are you using ? and any special ad blocker or anything?

Re: Underhand cast and Traditional cast

The 'brake system' - mentioned by Randy - at the end of the cast is a very good idea - apply top and bottom equally - then release and drift if you like after that - it doesn't matter then - the line...

Re: Underhand cast and Traditional cast

No matter what you read - a double handed rod means two hands are used in the cast.

They work together and both wrists 'snap-rotate' in the same direction - anti clockwise.

The bottom hand...

Re: Sunray Shadow;

Hi Ard,

I'm not familiar with icelandic sheep hair (is it not wavy?) - but I really suggest you use goat. The quality of the goat is critical. Most goat is too brittle or thick or too long- even...

Re: Sunray Shadow;

Just a quick tying suggestion guys - layer the wing. (and use the softest goat hair you can find).

I suggest building up the hair wing in small bunches. Each bunch slightly longer than the last....

Superb flies Ard ! Hard to resist by human or salmon :wavetowel

I actually tie all my tube flies on thin bare plastic tubes. And I dont tie any 'body' dressing on these at all.

Instead I tie...

Re: Long & Mid Belly Lines, Am I Alone Here?

Over the years I've tried all the line types and lengths on offer - and without fail I always go back to a very sweet outfit with a Spey head c. 4 x rod length.

Behind the head I use a thin...

Re: The forgotten colour!

The forgotten colour!

If you walk into a fly shop in the UK (at least) you will see dozens of different salmon patterns made from a combination of orange, black, yellow and red. With perhaps a few blues and some greens.

Re: Knowing when a line is too light?

I recommend you borrow/buy a 'soft' rod - an old glass rod or even cane would do nicely - and just get a feel for 'working' with a fly line. I recently put a softer actioned rod in the hands of...
