Re: YNP Question

I'd try 'just inside YNP': Madison River 0.6 mile into the park from W Yellowstone entrance. Dirt road; turn north.

That area could be very productive by late September. Try streamers, black...

Re: Little tricks to share

Hahaha. Well done.
Ingenuity at its best; functional (albeit 'ugly').

Re: PSA: Yellowstone Park is not a petting zoo!!!

DO IT!

I live in Mississippi and go every year. It's a 28-hr drive; well worth it. Just get into the car (loaded with fishing gear) and GO!

Re: PSA: Yellowstone Park is not a petting zoo!!!

But, as said above, if you get up at daylight to cruise the park you're certain to see wildlife.

This summer, as I drove to fishing locations at daybreak, I regularly had to slow for elk on the...

Re: PSA: Yellowstone Park is not a petting zoo!!!

Funny. I saw a similar scene at Norris Campground during 2013. A big grizzly crossed the road and walked into the campground as I was leaving (to go fishing) at dawn. I never heard if it was seen...

Re: PSA: Yellowstone Park is not a petting zoo!!!

I visit YNP every year, and I've always seen bears. IT'S BECAUSE I GET UP EARLY. Most of the visitors drive around starting at about 10AM (or later), expecting to see bears. Most of the bears have...

Re: Back brace

I know where you're coming from, but exercise isn't always enough. Arthritis is an ugly affliction, as is chronic back pain.

Still, we could all benefit from a regular exercise regiment. I've...

Re: Back brace

I wear a brace for support, especially when on an extended fishing trip. I have the nylon-type brace with velcro attachments. It's not perfect, and I'd like to try others.

BUT IT WORKS.

After...

Re: Headed to Sevierville, TN for a wedding...

Don't worry about 'renting boots'. As said above, you can fish most of SMNP in tennis shoes this time of year. Enjoy!

Re: Smartphone apps

I've used 'Fishing Spots' and 'Fishing Crew', and loaded some photos onto each. But neither of those was satisfactory; mostly pics of kids with bass.

I have never carried a phone while...

Re: South Dakota Trip Report....

Excellent. Thanks for sharing.
I spent a few days south and west of Badlands this summer after fishing YNP. Beautiful region.
Your photos were better! ;)

But then, there's likely a 22" Cutthroat under that bank, ready to take the fly!

Re: YNP.....Safe Solo Hiking?

Sometimes I think leaving my wife at home is a mistake.
But then, I enjoy those long days on the Madison.

Re: YNP.....Safe Solo Hiking?

I've almost always fished YNP solo, and (as donquixote said) I try to stay aware of my surroundings despite concentrating on fishing.

But YNP is huge, and parts of it have very few bears. Other...
