Re: What further advances in rod design are possible?

Letting my imagination run a little wild:

Just about every toy or game or greeting card you buy today has some sort of electronic element in it. I could see some kind of sensors in a rod that...

Re: 10' rod advice

I vote for the lightest one you think will work.

I've caught 20+" 3-4 lb. trout with a 10' 3 wt. The rod was completely adequate for that. It weighs 3.3 oz.

Nymphing with an outstretched...

Re: Orvis Rod Blanks?

If you already have a 5 wt, then a 4 wt won't feel much different unless it has a very different action.

Maybe you could borrow a 3 wt or even a 2 wt from someone to see if you like light rods.

Re: Are expensive sunglasses worth the cost?

mrfs=Madison River Fly Shop (the real name is Madison River Fishing Company mrfc.com).

Their clearances are usually very good. I bought two Sage rods from them on clearance.

Re: Is there such a thing as a 'good' cup of Instant Coffee?

Luwak coffee is made from beans than have been eaten and then defecated by a civet. Then the beans are gathered and processed.

I'd say someone is having a little fun with you.

Re: Is there such a thing as a 'good' cup of Instant Coffee?

Try Nescafe Taster's Choice Dark Roast mixed 1/2 and 1/2 with Nescafe Clasico.

Speaking of coffee and waking up - what time do you get up, anyway? I see you on here at 3-4 AM EDT. That's 12 M to...

Re: Anyone have any info?

Thanks for that info.

It's a new reel. It came with a 7 wt line on it. I was looking to get any info before I used it. I don't fish 7 wt rods very often.

Anyone have any info?

I bought this as NOS about a year ago. It was only $19, so I figured I was pretty safe.

Re: How long does it take a trout to start feeding again after feeling the hook?

I've had it happen, but not often.

The last time was early in the year when I hooked a 15" rainbow on a midge nymph. It broke off after a few seconds right at the fly.

I tied on a woolly...

Re: Southern Maine?

Your first problem is that most streams in Maine close to fishing on October 1.

Most lakes and ponds, and some streams will remain open.

You can look here...

Re: Best Low Cost Reel Options???

For the answers to make any sense, you need to tell everyone what kind of fishing you'll be doing.

What fish? What rod weights? Need a drag? Or not? Line capacity?

You get the idea. Any...

At best, this seems inconsiderate.

Most of us on this forum are not in the guiding business. Even so, I've seen (and made) posts where someone is looking for information on a specific date and...

Another good reel. I put them on rods I built for my grandchildren.

Re: Expensive reel for a 3 wt rod?

Cabela's Prestige Plus is a good reel.
The only criticism I have is that the finish chips very easily.
If that doesn't bother you, go for it.

Sorry to hear it, Fred.

I'm happy you can say "A good run with a very close/trusted friend."

Take care.

Re: Chameleon, Ultragreen or Clear - Which one to use?

Chameleon almost all the time.

It does have a very hard surface. The hard surface means that loops in knots won't bite into each other as much as with softer material.

Re: Wanted: DSLR camera

I'd give this a look:

Used Nikon D40 Digital Slr Body (http://www.adorama.com/US%20%20%20%20661667.html) $159

Then, you could pick up a Nikon 18-55 lens:

Re: High End Fly Rod Suggestions

Rather than trying to find the perfect 'do-it-all' rod, I'd look at getting a couple (or more) rods that each does something really well.

You need not spend any more money, if that's a...

Re: Classic Trout Half Off

Also, if you want a 5 wt 8'6" Tempt (same as CT), Sierra Trading Post has them for $109.95, but there's a 35% discount available which makes it $71.47.

Re: Help on buying a youth rig

I'd stay away from the heavy rods, too.

How big are these bass? I've caught 3-4# trout and 2-3# bass with a 2 wt. with no problems. Just use heavier tippet.

Just yesterday I used a 00wt. rod...

This is a little inside baseball here.

I got on well with Diver Dan.
