Re: Old Eyes and small flies

1) Very carefully....

2) I use the flip down mags on my hat brim and love em. But, you must be cautious to flip them back up after use when fishing in the sun. If you leave them half down, you...

Re: How important is the price of the rod?

Buy what feels right. I've slung line on some high end rods that felt like telephone poles and some entry level rods that just had the magic. One of the advantages of a local fly shop is that you can...

Re: Stepping Up

Yup, that's a challenge.

I came across an old 9ft 8wt Lamiglas a couple of years back and while I'll admit it will tire you out on a long day, it has enough backbone to handle just about anything...

Re: Waders

I'll second that. I've both Simms breathables and neo's and do a fair amount of surf fishing. Gaters do nothing to prevent the fine sand from making its way into the boots. I'm stopping about every...

Re: Waders

One of the big issues with the felt in this day and age is the possible transfer of invasive snails etc. from one body of water to another. If things stay the course, I can see where felt soles may...

Re: Gear advice.

Niklas

Your just down the road from me. I'd recommend the Artful Angler in Carpinteria as a place to stop by and check out equipment. As far as fishing in the area, the Santa Ynez is your local...

Re: Waders

Yes. they keep the rocks, sand and such out of your boots (aka gravel guards). They generally come separate from the waders which I why I lose an average of one a year.:icon_wink

Re: Waders Poll

I have both Simms breathables and a 4m neo's. Most of my "cold" water fishing occurs in the pounding surf and during the winter months I'll be wearing the neoprene for 2 reasons: warmth (obvious) and...

Fully agree. Seems everybody is different to some extent. it's sure sweet when you find a rod/reel combo that perfect though....

Foot vs Tiller

I recently picked up an older 19ft tri-hull which I'm rigging up for bass fishing on our local lakes. I've done this before with an old larson; however, that was back when I (primarily) gear fished...

Re: When did you start?

Ya just never know. Ole' Sage may just jump at that idea. I sold the bass boat a couple years back in prep for retirement and relocation. Those plans got delayed a couple of years, but I picked up an...

Re: When did you start?

I slipped into a local charity bass tournament a few yes back on a local lake and at weigh in had 13.7 lbs, 5 fish limit in the livewell. When they (as they always do) ask what I had used, I broke...

Welcome back. I've got a friend who now lives in Darby on the bitterroot and I'm chomping at the bit to go pay him a long visit this spring.

Re: When did you start?

1983 while in Ketchikan Alaska with the U.S.C.G. Wanted something a little more of a challenge. No mentors or friends who danced with the fly, so I learned primarily by trial and error on an old 9ft...
