Lots of great advice, I would also suggest the Manistee and Pine rivers near Wellston, Mi. Great fly shop in Wellston and they have rooms to stay in as well (Schmitt Fly Shop).

I don't like UA either, and I've always had a good experience with Southwest Airlines. Give them a shot, they are a Greyhound bus with wings, but they don't charge for one bag nor for carryon.

Good luck to you, that is a great location, I fish in the same areas as you-I use a 9'0" rod and 8 wt reel (Orvis rig for both) when in N.W.Mich. fishing for salmon.
