Re: What's the worst fly rod you've ever had?

A Sage "Flight" 5 wt. I bought a few years ago. Was stepping up from a Cabelas "Traditional II" to a mid grade rod and was waaaaay disappointed. I am pretty sure that thing was simply a whittled down...

Re: Cabelas Reel Made By Lamson...WLX???

I own two of them (2/3 and 5/6) and have been pretty happy with them so far. I do have a word of warning: Play with the EXACT reel you plan to purchase in the store. When purchasing my 2/3, the first...

Re: Gunnison for the Salmon fly hatch!

Starting to see some stones on the banks and in the trees on the lower reaches, but the river was still over 3100 cfs today, and very little surface activity. Took some PIGS on bead head stone nymphs...

Re: Gunnison for the Salmon fly hatch!

It really depernds on where the bugs are coming up at. The hatch usually starts off low (near the North Fork confluence) in the first 1/2 of June and makes its way upriver slowly or quickly,...

My top 5 that I carry pretty much everywhere I fish up here:

1) Dark elk wing caddis of some sort
2) RS-2 (gray)
3) Mercury Black Beauty
4) BWO
5) Stone Nymph

If I was going to list 6,...

Re: Any one have experience with the 7'9 3 weight St Croix Legend Ultra?

Thanks for the feedback!
I will probably eventually upgrade the reel, but for now, getting the rod, a $140 reel, and $70 line for the price of the rod alone was pretty darn hard to pass. Will let...

Any one have experience with the 7'9 3 weight St Croix Legend Ultra?

Looking at getting a small stream rod for some hike/fish trips here in Colorado and although I have only gotten into fly fishing this year, it bit me in a BIG way.
Cabelas has the St Croix Legend...

Re: Newbie with a question on a combo at Cabelas vs. a TFo kit..

Thanks for all the great feedback guys. Getting in to thiis was kind of intimidating, but after talking to a lot of folks and reading reviews, I decided to keep what I had picked up. The guys over at...

Re: Newbie with a question on a combo at Cabelas vs. a TFo kit..

Thanks guys. I was wondering if there were any significant quality differences between the two or any specific things to look at.
Thanks for the heads up on the reel weight difference. That is the...

Re: Newbie with a question on a combo at Cabelas vs. a TFo kit..

Thanks. Just kinda leary asking a question that may or not have an obvious answer as it is all new to me. Just want to make sure I get started on the right foot in case it sticks!

Newbie with a question on a combo at Cabelas vs. a TFo kit..

Before you start bashing guys, I am brand new to fly fishing and know jack squat, and before I drop a lot of coin, I want to make sure I like it. I moved to western Colorado a few years ago and with...
