Re: Trout Fly Rod Arsenal

The obvious gap in your lineup (for trout fishing applications) is a small stream rod or a dedicated nymphing rod. Both will definitely add to your enjoyment, but will take away from the usefulness...

Re: Line recommendation

AKS -

Silvers - will depend on how you want to present. You'll want a floating line with a bunch of different depth tips. Rio Versatip is very popular, but you can get away with a floating line,...

Re: Scott vs. Winston

At face value, they are similar. Both are 'independent' rod companies, both made in the USA, both very well made. However, if you dig a little deeper, the personalities of these rod companies...

Re: Sage ACCEL

I had the chance to cast the Accel. I'd say it's more similar to the VXP than the Z-axis. A nice med-fast rod that's going to be great at dries, but not as accurate/light as the Circa and not as fast...

Re: Loomis NRX LP?

Hi John,

The LP is definitely a much softer rod than the 'standard' NRX. It makes a pretty nice all-arounder (particularly if you throw a lot of dries), but don't expect it to be a super distance...

Re: Bass rod

They are both basically 8wt rods. I would probably go with something lighter for smallies, but either will work for stripers and steelhead.

Re: Experienced Advice Sought for a 7wt. Reel...

Of the reels you listed, only the Teton is made in the US. The Lamson Guru is a great reel for the money, as someone else has already mentioned.

Re: reel balance?

I feel like this has been sufficiently answered, but balance is a really personal choice. As a rule of thumb, an ounce of weight in the reel will move the balance point of the rod an inch....

Re: 9' vs 9.5' vs 10' fly rods ?

The extra length will definitely add distance, but also make...

Re: Tarpon vs. ONE 12WT or Method 11WT

Given how new the Method is, I doubt that there are many people in the world who have caught a 100+lb tarpon on them. I will say that the Method is a better saltwater rod than the ONE, but neither...
