Re: Set-Up For Bluegills

Welcome to the club Turbineblade......I love my short rods. I have 3 short glass and 2 short graphites. I use them all. The only time I pull out my 9' rods is when I hit the salt and on rare...

Re: Lunchtime biking/fishing...

I ride one of my bikes to a little bridge a couple of miles from the house. No place to park the truck and I just throw the bike over the guard rail and wade wet in the summer.

Re: Bass on a 5wt

Yep, a 5wt will handle it but don't expect to pull a 5#er out of the pads every time and don't high stick them either.

Re: Rods Breaking?

The only graphite rod I have broken was a cheap Cabelas rod and it broke the day it arrived after a half dozen casts in the back yard. The rod was replaced and the replacement has made at least...

Re: New guy hello & questions

Go to the SA and Rio and Wulff web sites to compare head lengths and taper lengths. Some of the bonefish lines actually have fairly long heads and tapers. Many salt water tapers do also. Most of the...

Re: New guy hello & questions

You are basicly a rank beginner. It will not do you a lot of good comparing rods until you get some real time on the water IMO. For fresh water I would not worry about a reel with drag unless you are...

Re: Who are you ?

Fear is a terrible thing to live with. We live in troubled times but fear can and will paralyze folks. The terrorists have already won. It seems that we are becoming afraid to live our lives if we...

Re: 3wt or 4wt for bluegill.

Get a 6' to 7' 2 or 3wt rod. TFO signature has a 2 for slightly over $100. There is a gentleman in MI that custom builts a nice glass 6 1/2' 3wt for something over $100. Eagle Claw markets a 6 1/2'...

Re: Set-Up For Bluegills

I don't know anything about that rod but I would sure like to give one a try. I am a sucker for short light rods.

Re: Bream in cold weather

Crappies!!!! hahaha ......From what little experience I have had with cold water sunfish I would say that they are hard to find but when you find them you should catch a bunch out of the same spot...

Re: Have any good poaching bust stories to share?

Last year here in middle TN there was 3 foreign born gents that were loading their boat with white bass as I recall fishing below some of the TVA dams. I understand that they had been doing this for...

Re: Off Topic - So you like to Mountain Bike?

I wonder how many skinned elbows it took to develop his fantastic skills? He is a very driven individual. I am sure he could succeed at anything he sets his mind to.

Re: 7 wt. & Saltwater application ?

I have a 9' 7wt that I have fished on the ML in east central FL....I was able to cast into some fairly strong winds. The rod was overpowering for the fish that I was catching. I did not cast any...

Re: Opinion on chinese or korean built rods?

I much prefer to by American made products. ....But I refuse to spend $800 for a fly rod when I can get a good functioning rod for 1 to $200. Sadly there are some items that there is no choice but to...

Re: Distance.... A question for us "older" casters

I am sure I qualify as an older caster. I have always seen some humor in folks talking about 10 and 20' casts. We go out and buy a $800 dollar rod, a $500 reel and talk about the subtle advantage...

Re: Short rod suggestions

Well leod the longer rods do feel like telephone poles after fishing these short rods. They are such a pleasure to cast and as close to requiring no effort as one can get. I also use 9' rods where I...

Re: 2wt Reel Advice

Not being a tackle snob I would look to Bass Pro or Cabelas for a cheap, smallish reel and buy another line with the money difference . Or buy 4 of the reels instead of one reel and a spare spool.

Re: Getting a small rod - need some help

Your requirements are sort of contradictory. Nymph fishing and a short rod don't go together very well. A short rod for casting in a stream with a tree canopy is great. I fish a 6'er most of the time...

Re: Loading the rod and tight loops

Google 'sexyloops'. Mucho info there. I learned to double haul there. Great stuff. Not just for beginners either.
