Re: Tying tippet to leader

May need a definition of 'better,' but I use uni-knots pretty much exclusively. Been using them for over 20 years so I've developed a system for tying them that's relatively quick, foolproof and I...

Re: Tying tippet to leader

I'll second tippet rings; eliminates the need to even heave to learn a leader-tippet knot.

However, if you simply must have a few of these knots memorized, here's a couple links that might be...

Re: Best all around rod

Welcome.

You should do yourself a favor and cast as many different rods as possible, and as much as possible ignore the name on the blank, before pulling the trigger on a rod. It would be pure...

Re: Screwed up my computer! Big printing on the screen.

If its a PC, try hold and press the 'ctrl' key and the dash or minus sign key. May have to do it more than once.

Another way is to go to CONTROL PANEL, then click on 'Ease of access/optimize...

Re: High-End Rod Appeal

Everyone that reads this thread and hasn't yet bought a rod over $500, do yourself a favor . . . DON'T!

There are literally dozens of rods that cost less than $500 that you can fish quite happily...

Re: Springtime in Wyoming (updated)

Larry;

If you're up around Fontenelle Dam in about a month and a half, maybe we'll get a chance to fish together this year. I'm supposed to meet Muzzy up there around then. I can show you my...

Re: Over Weighting Fly Line

You've already received some really good advice on this topic, so I'll just ask you a couple questions: how do you plan to fish the rod? How proficient a caster are you?

If you plan on casting...

Re: Furled Leaders

Call them. If it hasn't shipped, they'll probably be able to change your order.

As to the original question, I use them for dries as well as shallow subsurface techniques. Haven't tried them for...

Re: Things I think I've learned and things I still struggle with

Of course, you should take this advice with a couple three grains of salt, as I'm not an instructor or an expert caster. And without actually seeing you cast I'm only guessing what's happening by...

Re: Keep or sell!

Give the Winston to an underprivileged person like me.

Just kidding. Unless you really need the money, why don't you just 'loan' them out to friends/family until you get back?

Re: easier than the tradition Blood Knot

I've tied it (seaguar knot) using all the above and never had a problem. I've never had the knot itself fail either, including landing several fish well over the rated test strength of the tippet. ...

Re: easier than the tradition Blood Knot

Haven't tied a blood knot in years. Used to tie double uni-knots until I found the seaguar knot; I just need my hemostats and it ties in under ten seconds.

Seaguar Knot - How to tie a Seaguar...

Chevelon Canyon Lake Trip Invite

Okay, here's the deal: my usual fishing buddy had to bow out of our fishing trip this weekend, and I just decided I still want to go. So if anyone wants to meet up in the Phoenix area and head up...

Re: Fly tying saves money?

I started tying flies about eight years ago thinking I'd save money. But like many tiers I soon saw that I wanted to tie more and more patterns and color variations within patterns. Suddenly I...

Re: New to Fly Fishing; What Would You Do If You Had A Do Over?

I hear you about the commute, though working nights means that I usually don't have to deal with rush hour. And I'm not sure which clubs are active either. I was going to DFC meetings until a...

Re: Any warmwater species mimic trout in feeding?

This is a little backwards in regards to the OP's question, but when I started fly fishing for brown trout about eight years ago I noticed early on that in many ways they predated in a fashion...

Re: New to Fly Fishing; What Would You Do If You Had A Do Over?

How would you start out in the sport if you had it to do over again?

Funny. I've had this conversation with myself a few times over the years . . .
"If I'd only done this instead of that, I'd...

Hey. I started a Blog. Now what?

Yeah, so I started a blog for no apparent reason, other than I just felt like writing something and it didn't feel like a regular thread topic. Right now there's just a rather wordy intro and a...

Re: NHL Playoffs 2015

Sorry, nope, can't let the 'yotes move to Quebec or anywhere else. Not that I'm a Phoenix fan at all, but without them I'd never get to see my Blues at all. So they have to stay.

As for having...

Though after the sloppy passing and confused defensive play I saw last night, I'm not holding out much hope unless they get their act together.

The Ducks/Jets game was a...

Re: LL Bean Kennebec Waders

I'll agree with everyone on Simms. They are the best, but I'm with you on not spending $500 for G3s.

If you decide to go Simms, this is my advice. Get these instead:Simms Headwaters Gore-Tex...

Re: You just paid $50 for nippers. What's Next?

God, I love Monty Python, and that bit is about the funniest thing ever.

As for what's next, has anyone mentioned the data-sensing waders? I mean if you're going to go full boat on the tech...

Re: Three Wt. Rods - A rookies perspective

Everyone's already given you several good choices as to the brand of rod, so I'll just comment on the length. If you're mostly fishing ponds with it, I'd suggest going with a longer rod, so maybe 8+...

How Many Different Ways Can You Sling a Fly?

So, I'm sitting here on another lazy Sunday afternoon instead of fishing. But I've been thinking about fishing almost all day, and that's when this occurred to me. How many different casts can you...
