Re: St Croix Imperial vs Legend Ultra

These are both great rods and anyone should be happy with either of them. I wish St Croix had a bigger following here in Washington. They are hard rods to come by in a shop here. When I lived in...

Re: St Croix Imperial vs Legend Ultra

My experience varies from this a little bit. Here is my history with these rods:

1) Purchased an 8' 4wt Imperial and 8'-6" 4wt legend ultra the same day in 2012.

2) I have owned a 9' 6wt...

Re: Filson Vests

I've got the same pack and haven't noticed that. I try to have the waste strap pretty tight though to distribute the load.

Re: Are there trout in Oregon?

When he gets to Seattle tell him to look into sea run cutthroat fishing in the Puget sound. It's an overlooked and fun fishery.

Re: Good salt line for 9' 8 wt single hand rod

Similar taper to the two mentioned above, I like the Rio Outbound (not outbound short) and the Airflo 40+ lines a lot for saltwater fishing. I use these both in floating and intermediate densities...

Re: Tying tippet to leader

Interesting, never tried that. Do you do this just for dries or for subsurface too? I could see it being ok on dries but when I fish subsurface I don't even use a loop to loop from the fly line to...

Re: Mending

Each piece of water can be different but I'll offer up something.

1)Be proactive with your mending. Anticipate what the water currents will do to your line and mend to position the line before...

Re: Hook Keeper

I hook the fly on the reel at the top of the frame. This works for all hooks except for small sized flies where the gape of the hook is too narrow to span the thickness of the reel frame.

The hook...

Re: Flyshopcloseout.com

I've bought line there before. As far as rods and reels go, I first look to purchase from fishing forums classifieds, whether new or used gear. My favorites being washingtonflyfishing.com and...

Re: Sage Rod Chart Old to New

Are you sure it isn't a VPS? The VPS is the same blank as the RPL but with cheaper hardware. (Reel seat, guides, etc) However, the VPS light is the same blank as the LL, again, with cheaper hardware.

Re: Newbies first fish on a fly rod

Nice work! That fish is way bigger than my first on a fly rod, and like you I will never forget the place, fly, or the fish.

Re: Hardy Zenith or St. Croix Avid

I have never cast those two rods so I won't be of much help. However, I am intrigued by your choice of rods for comparison. It may be helpful to describe what has drawn you to those two choices.

I don't use the email alerts but rather the notifications directly from tapatalk, that way they go straight to tapatalk. I also don't browse by unread posts, which it sounds like is important to you....

Re: Bauer RX

I've got a few bauer's with the drag on the "wrong" side. Hasn't bothered me. I think they are solid reels. Would love to try out the RX someday.

I'm not a reel guy though and I seem to just buy...

I find it very useful. I follow 7 forums, 5 of which are fly fishing forums, and this one app provides easy access to each of them. Handling PM's, uploading pictures, switching between forums,...

Re: Leader and flies icing up

I lived in Des Moines, IA fall of 2011 - spring 2013. It was my first go at warm water species and it was a lot of fun. Probably caught more fish in 2012 than any other year of my life. As far as...

Been tempted by this one as well. If others on here aren't aware, that washingtonflyfishing site has a very active classifieds section and draws nationwide participation. I live in washington but...

Re: Your Fly rod brand of choice

I must be drawn to S's because my favorite brands are SAGE, St Croix, and Scott. SAGE is by far my favorite and of my couple dozen rods they make up 75% or so. Their customer service has been top...

Re: St Croix Legend Ultra is back

It's interesting to see others opinions on this. I have the same 9' 6wt LU and it's my favorite nymphing rod. I much prefer it over my XP, Optistream, Streamdance GLX HLS, and Sage One for Nymphing....

Re: St Croix Legend Ultra is back

I've got the 9' 6wt LU. I love this rod. Easily my most fished rod and I have several other 6 wts that cost much more. It's been durable, is forgiving on casting stroke issues, has plenty of power,...
