Re: WTB cheap 5wt rod

Where are you located? I have one you might be interested in but you'd have to pick it up in Maine, I'm not interested in shipping it. 7' 5w Fenwick.

Re: Not good For Durango Colorado

"We're from the government, we're here to help."

They think that high flows will wash that nastiness away? I lived in the Colorado Rockies until the end of 2013. You can drive around and see mine...

Re: Ever hit a deer/large animal while driving?

I've never hit any, but had one hit me. Early morning, driving down to Deckers, mule deer bolted out of the shadows, ran straight into the side of my Xterra. He took out every panel and piece of trim...

Re: West canada Creek

I fish it. We have a summer camp there, spend a week or two a month spring through fall. I've had the most success this year with chartreuse caddis larva and hare's ear nymphs. Right now they're...

Re: Wading shoes...

Well..don't expect it soon.. I'm in Maine, Simms told me due date is November, so unless my basement floods it'll be a while. In all seriousness it appears to be exactly what I need. Simms is calling...

Re: Wading shoes...

I use my old Simms L2s with neoprene socks. I have a pair of RipRaps but as has been mentioned, they don't offer much support. Simms has a new wet wading boot in their 2016 line that I've already...

Re: Housatonic River

I grew up in Connecticut. My first Housatonic fishing experience was camping out in Housatonic Meadows with my dad and my friend Bill. This was probably around 1960- there weren't any named...

Re: What's working for you this summer?

I tie mine on a 2487 hook. Chartreuse Ice Dub, med copper wire for the rib, and Black Peacock Ice Dub for the head. And wrap the hook with .015 lead-free wire.

Re: New Member from Ct/NY

Welcome. I've been fishing the West Canada for the last week. Heading back to Maine today to mow and tend our gardens. Back here in a couple of weeks. If you see my blue Xterra parked by the falls...

Re: Tying Tip- Keeping Scissors Sharp.

Even simpler than that- don't cut wire with your good scissors at at all. Use an old/cheapie pair for that.

Re: Knee pads (under or over waders)

Basketball kneepads. I've worn them for decades. How else can you fish in full-on stealth mode? $10-15 at your local sporting goods store.

Re: Black flies

I use the mesh bug jacket and a head net. For working outside as well. It's a good thing they're only around for a few weeks or Maine would be largely unpopulated. Um...well, it is..

Re: fly line Knots - a problem

A clinch knot is not sufficient, as you've discovered. Use an improved clinch knot.

Re: Eat that fish, or release it?

Yep, I agree. Another question for those that do take fish- would you drink the water they're living in?

Re: Source you use for tying?

Opening that Herter's box was better than a birthday sometimes. Stuff for me, stuff for my Dad. I still have my first vise from Herter's, and some of the tying materials as well.

Re: Source you use for tying?

It's not about instant gratification, it's about competing in the on-line marketplace. When your competitors outperform you they're going to take market share, and deservedly so.

Re: Source you use for tying?

I've used a couple of those with really nice catalogs, the problem is that they take so long to ship. Shipping an order on the third or fourth day after receiving the order is just not acceptable....
