Re: Mono, Flouro or Both?

I use both.

HOWEVER... What you use does not come close to being as important as a drag free drift. As I spent my time learning (still am really), I tried to buy my way toward more successful...

Re: Why So Many Pop Up Ads??? (Nothing to do with Fishing)

Guys... Delete browsing history then run your antivirus software. If it works like Norton, it will find the embedded "cookies" that cause the most offensive ads. I'm using Win 7 with Chrome and get...

Re: Fly Tying Materials Fair Market Value????

I watched this video early on and hesitated offering anything more than a "WOW!" After reading through all the comments, it appears this woman needs either a collector with DEEP pockets or someone...

Re: Why So Many Pop Up Ads??? (Nothing to do with Fishing)

Those ads, I'm sure, help pay for this site. This doesn't make me like them any better. Knowing this does help me put up with them though.

Some ads, not just from this site, will embed cookies on...

Re: Stronger Tippets on the Horizon

Thanks for posting Silver. I won't be replacing my existing tippet because of the change. It is good to know there is something better coming with that next purchase though. :)

Re: How do I make a trout leader/butt?

I asked all these same questions a year ago. I even called Maxima and spoke with them.

The different types of Maxima are
Chameleon: Designed to be a butt section. It is stiffer and brown. As...

Re: Anyone else hate Rio Gold?

Yes! It's a casting issue. When you go to the fly shop, ask the guy to also check out your stroke. This would be a great opportunity for some FREE casting lessons! :)

If you do go with a new line...

Re: How do I make a trout leader/butt?

^^^What he said^^^

That link will take you to a detailed conversation.

The short answer is the same for your 4 and 6 weights, but different if you go to a larger rod. The butt will be a minimum...

Re: Gold/GPX Any Difference ?

+1...

The NEW GPX (MPX) coming out has a compound taper and may be better. I'm not sure I would buy another GPX line.

Re: Anyone else hate Rio Gold?

S&S is right. Nothing wrong with Gold...

Try a closeout SA Textured Trout line. If I recall, I think your rod prefers a true to weight fly line. Rio Gold is a bit heavy. Keep in mind that I'm...

Re: The Gerbubble Bug

Jim,

If you get a chance, it looks like you've got too many "http://" in your links. They won't open properly.

Re: NEW Dave Hughes Wet Flies Book 2015

I'm planning on ordering the book myself. It's good to see a positive review from someone who is reading it!

NEW Dave Hughes Wet Flies Book 2015

Dave Hughes just released an updated book - Wet Flies Second Edition. I have not read it. I do know how popular his last book was and thought some of you may want to know.

Wet Flies: 2nd Edition:...

Re: Rod for kayak fishing

I would think sitting down in a kayak, having some extra length would make it easier to keep line up off the water when casting. I would also think that a longer, say 10', rod would help in line...

Re: Stabilicers when wading, use them?

Korkers sells something similar as does Patagonia I think. You may want to look up all three and see whose gets the best reviews. I don't have any experience with any of them.

Re: leader / tippet question

Something for you to consider when fishing a "mono" leader and a "fluro" tippet. The flouro is (maybe much) less visible/more invisible under water than mono is. You CAN use a thicker tippet when...

Re: tying leaders - what to do with what I have

Try it! Just don't buy the red for the butt. I do use the red for a sighter at the end of my fly line when nymphing or some streamer fishing.

Gary Borger, who I 100% buy into, suggests a .020 line...

Re: tying leaders - what to do with what I have

^^^What he said ^^^^

Perfection loop to attach to the fly line, blood knots for the butt section, then I tie surgeon's knots for the tippet - a triple surgeons if I'm using flouro. Again, if you...

Re: tying leaders - what to do with what I have

Silver has a great formula that came from Gary Borger. I can't remeber what he calls the leader Silver always shares. Here's what I remember.

For a 6 wt, start with about a 4 foot butt section of...
