Re: New SAGE rod, opinions wanted

For me the 691 One is a real sweetheart of a rod. I've fished it a lot n the surf, and it performed admirably. I recently sold it in favor of a 697 Method that will be used mostly in the surf, but...

Re: Galvan Brookie

Fisherman's Spot in Van Nuys, CA had a few on hand last time I was in there. I'm sure they would be willing to ship if they have what you need. I've special ordered Galvans from them before and it...

Re: Galvan Brookie

I love mine. I think it's the 2/3 size, and I use it on a 279 Circa. Love the new Clear finish (I think most Galvans look best in that finish).

Re: Rods You Just Can't Part With

For me it's my Sage SLT 376. It's a fantastic rod that is versatile beyond it's specs. More importantly there was a particularly difficult time in my life where I really leaned on fishing very...

Re: Reel Suggestions for Circa 479?

That's definitely a light rod in that configuration. Depending on whether or not you're looking for a somewhat substantial drag, the Galvan Brookie could be a contender, and is an excellent...

Re: Reel Love; the Fly Reel Picture Thread

Went in to the gear closet today to start prepping (hiding) gear for an impending house move, and decided to pull these guys out for a family portrait. Couple of new additions in there (Torques in...

Re: Reel weight for 691-4 Sage One?

I had a Torque 6 on mine, and thought it was a great match.

Re: First time with a 2 weight and searching for wild trout..

Having a stream that looks like that, holds brown trout, and is walking distance from the house is the stuff that dreams are made of.

Re: What color reel for Method?

Pic was emailed to me by Lou Galvan. He said they are currently available at participating dealers. Not sure who those are, but I think I saw that Stillwater has them available to order with a 12/1...

Re: SoCal Surf @ El Segundo

Better yet, roll into one of those shops and give them a little business. Dean is super knowledgeable about local surf. A couple quick answers to your questions: For annual licenses you need a...

Re: 7wt streamer rod

I like your inclination toward the one, but would personally go 796-4. I have used one for surf fishing with a Rio Streamer Tip line, and light, smooth, and powerful is exactly how I would describe...

Re: What color reel for Method?

The Silver/Red Hatch Finatic looks real nice on the Method. Galvan is about (not exactly sure about timing) to release some new colors for the Torque, with red being one of them.

Re: Sage Method comparison to Sage One (one guys perspective)

That was my experience with the 890s as well. For me Method feels faster, and I can cast farther, but generally has more feel and is more intuitive than One. Stiff was my immediate impression of...

Re: 3 ways 4wt reel battle

Torques have been awesome for me on my 4 and 5 weights. They can easily be had with the free line deal.

Re: Sage accel reviews?

I've had a similar line of reasoning. I missed the boat entirely on the 490 SLT, and was thinking of an Accel in that configuration as a reasonable facsimile. Anxious to cast one.

Re: Rod Love; the Fly Rod Picture Thread

Thanks for the kind words. I don't have any experience with other configurations of the Circa, but I'll offer my thoughts based on my limited frame of reference. I'm also a huge fan of the SLT...

Re: So.... I'm a bit stuck in a rut.

7'6" 3wt is my go to for that type of fishing, which I do a lot of when there's actually water in the creeks of Southern California. The SLT 376-4 is a fantastic rod, and probably the rod I've...

Re: Rod Love; the Fly Rod Picture Thread

Got to take my favorite rod (SLT 389-4) out for a spin today, with a new reel (504L) and line. The "new" reel is the best fit, from both a balance and vibe that I've had yet. I've had several lines...

Re: Orvis C.F.O.

There's something special about those older reels. I've got an old C&P CFO I myself, and recently got a Hardy made Sage 504L. I do have a new Abel made CFO, and while it's an absolutely gorgeous...

Re: Orvis C.F.O.

Without looking at the specs, it seems like going with a III for a 2wt line simply to eliminate line coil would necessitate a relatively absurd amount of backing. I had a II on Circa 2wt, and it was...

Re: Reel Love; the Fly Reel Picture Thread

It really does make me want another. I know where there's a mint 505L, but it's $350. Probably too rich for my blood, though it is tempting.

Re: Reel Love; the Fly Reel Picture Thread

New addition to the quiver just arrived today. It's going to make it's new home on a SLT 389-4 (my favorite rod). I'm really pumped about the combo. The reel looks like it has never been fished,...

Re: Rods you now regret selling...

I buy and sell rods a lot, so there are a few. XP 490-4, and a Center Axis SLT 080-3 come to mind. I sold an OG unsanded blank Superfine 7'6" 1wt that I regretted, but recently stumbled upon...

Re: Sage Rod Chart Begs the debate - which is best?

SLT 389-4 is my favorite rod ever. I often find myself choosing to fish water that suits that rod, rather than the other way around.
