Re: The Silence of a Solitary Fly Fisherman

I have been on a stream alone and had deer and turkey walk up within 40 feet of where I am fishing. I actually love to be out fly fishing alone.

Pet Inspired Patterns / Uses

OK - I have read a few posts about tyers using their pets fur or feathers. I had a wonderful cat named bootsie who had amazing fur. She is long gone now - but I still have some hair in a dubbing...

Re: First nice brookie of the year

I love the brook trout colors. In the fall the reds and blues look almost tropical.

In MI - the brook trout is native.

Our main native fish - the Grayling - was fished to extinction in the...

Re: Dry Fly Fishing is hard work!!

I tend to think the type of fishing that is more technical depends on the water and weather. I have fished rivers where only dries catch fish and the same goes for nymphs. I actually think they are...

Re: rock bass?

Same here in MI. I fish for smallies and tend to hook into a ton of rock bass. I often end up fishing for the rock bass instead just to stay caching fish.

They are fun to hook into even with a 3...

Re: More than one way to work a stream:

I think this is a great take on warmwater fishing. I often fish small patterns just to get into a bunch of fish. When I spend the time to use large streamers or poppers I tend to land less fish -...

Re: a mouse for bass

Easy ties for bass are great. I find that the bass rip my flies apart quick. I also tend to hook into a pike or two when fishing for bass and they destroy flies so I like easy and quick ties.

Re: warmwater species advice

I also love to use deer hair poppers or cork poppers. They work well in the hot months when the sun starts to set.

Re: Dry Fly Trout - Nothing Better

It is great to read a report about someone thrilled about fishing. I got out two times this year. The first was to a small stream and it was excellent.

The second was a short trip up north. ...

Re: Wisconsin's Wet Feet Law

I always use the road crossings to get near the streams in my area and then I stay on the opposite side of the river from any dwelling. It seems to work out well for me.

Great bit of information.

Re: Rain Fish Fun

I love to see great pics of fish. I use a long purple bunny strip leach pattern for bass with a touch of black marabou that works really well.

It was inspired by the purple worm that I used when...

First Brown of 09

I spent the past few weeks trying to hit a local stream to fish, but the rain we have had caused the water to be blown out!

I finally got out this week and caught 4 small rainbows and this brown...
