Re: Need Nymph Hook Suggestions

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I think I'm going to go with the curved hook, either the Daiichi 1760 or 1260. The 1260 (Saber 1707) is not 2xh whereas the 1760 is. I'm guessing it will be easier...

Re: Need Nymph Hook Suggestions

Hmm, you have me thinking :shocking:

What has your experience been with these hooks? Do they stay sharp? Do they flex a lot when you're tying? What percentage of the lot do you find unuseable?

Re: Kayak Fishing

On the negative side, I ended up abandoning kayak fishing for the following reasons:

1. Sit too low to the water
2. Constant line tangles on the kayak made for a frustrating experience
3. Hard...

Need Nymph Hook Suggestions

I'm looking at starting to replenish my nymph hook supply. Long ago the hooks I purchased were TMC 5262 2xl, 2xh. I found over the years (yes I bought a lot when I started :upset:) that I wanted...

Re: Want to hit the beaverkill, NY

It will depend upon the water levels and such, but if you PM me with your email, I'll send you a map with the pools. You can check Gary LaFontaine's "Fly Fishing the Beaverkill" for some suggestions...

Re: Fly Shop Owners?

I've had both experiences. Here in Central NY there is a plethora of fly shops. The 2 that are the best are Troutfitter in Syracuse and Melinda's in Altmar. Both are owner operated and they are...

Re: Jungle Don

Eunan,

Where are you sourcing your feathers (Bustard, Goose, etc)? I haven't found a place that appears to be in business.

Re: Jungle Don

Eunan: Absolutely splendid as usual. If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been tying salmon flies and how did you master them (besides lot's of practice)?

Re: How long does it take from your home to the water?

2 minutes to the nearest stream. Makes it easy to go spur of the moment. Being in Central NY I have 4 good trout streams within 20 minutes. Longest drive for me would be about 2 hrs to the Delaware.

Re: Royal Wulff Ambush fly line

Yes, it is the 8wt TT line. I've been thinking of getting it in 5wt but I don't fish big rivers and feel it would be overkill for where I fish.

Re: Royal Wulff Ambush fly line

I use it on my 8wt for Steelhead and love it. It flies out of my rod like butter. The owner of my local fly shop traded 5 or 6 spools instead of a tip the last time he took a group to Alaska. You...

Re: Rod weight help needed

Maccoons - It all depends upon what species you are targeting. For bass, the rod is correct. I wouldn't use it on small trout or panfish because you would lose all sense of feel of the fish on your...

Re: Anyone trout fishing in WNY this time year?

Keep in mind that the temps today were high, so everything is melting. The whole state is on a river flood watch. I heard that the Salmon river today was running at 1800.

That's one interesting grub. What did you hackle that with? I haven't had an opportunity to try some steam on my hackles yet. Our coffee pot is an electric kettle and it turns off as soon...
