Re: "The night I put my Fly Rod down"

I've caught two cat fish and close to a dozen small mouth bass this year in muddy water with my fly rod. I also caught my first steelhead when hurricane sandy made its way to Lake Michigan two years...

Re: Waders for real big guys

Bass Pro shops White River Osprey breathable waders are decently priced and run up to 5XL 5XLT and 5XLS. I liked them but I developed leaks in my first pair at just under a year. They are...

Re: Are crayfish patterns worth trying?

Tie up woolly buggers with rubber legs and dumbbell eyes in crawfish colors. Right now our crayfish are orange and brown so those are the colors I'm using. I was worried that the marabou I bought...

Re: From Salmon River NY to Pere Marquette MI

I've never fished the PM but have the Betsie, Platte and a trib into the Manistee the last couple of falls. Michigan stocks a strain of steelhead that primarily runs in late winter and spring so...

Re: Duck, Duck, Goose

Same here and they are mean. They've attacked my car on the road a couple of times down at our park and my brother and I got attacked by an over protective mother goose on a green at a local golf...

Re: unexpected catch a first

Actually there are 17 types of mussels found in this river and I don't think the black sand is one of them. The only reason I know that is because I live in the flood zone and a rare mussel was...

Re: Duck, Duck, Goose

It's usually the tourists who get hit by cars around here.

I did check with my local DNR office and they said I can not collect any of the feathers. Thanks for the responses.

Re: Duck, Duck, Goose

I thought that might be the case, glad I asked before I gathered anything. I thought I put it in my original post but must have missed it. The geese were all road kill, one was right outside my...

Duck, Duck, Goose

Ok there were no ducks but there was a Blue Heron. Over the last several days I've come across 3 Canadian Geese and my father in law found a Blue Heron that died after breaking a wing, all were...

Re: unexpected catch a first

Caught my second cat a couple of weeks ago in the same river but miles from the first. I was actually on my cell phone when it hit. (I know, bad form to be on the phone while fishing but I couldn't...

Re: Brown Trout Pics

Walked four miles round trip for these two. Not huge but completely worth it.

Re: Mayfly hatch so large is showed up on doppler radar

Same thing happens in Toledo off of Lake Erie every year. It's fun to watch them using snow shovels the next day to clean them up. Not so fun running across the turnpike when they are swarming.

Re: 5 Weight Bass Flies?

I use my 5wt. pretty exclusively for bass, but I do tend to avoid windy days and I'm not fishing for Texas sized bass. Clouser minnows are what I started with but now I'm mostly throwing rabbit...

Re: How long does it take from your home to the water?

An hour and a half but luckily my parents and in laws live right on it. Warm waters species are just a couple of blocks away and on a really bad day going down my street or through my living room.

Re: Streamlight Large Arbor Reel

I have both a 5wt. and 8wt. Streamlight. Overjoyed with both reels and I bought an extra spool for the 8wt. and put a sinking tip line on it. I don't have a lot of experience with other reels but...

Re: Underlining a rod

I learn something new every time I look at this forum. I had no idea underlining your rod could help with distance. Thanks for the tip.

Re: One hundred pounds of Lab LOOKING AT YOU.

I've got an 80 pound wired haired griffon/airedale, when he's hungry he picks up his metal bowl and slams it down on our tile repeatedly. Some nights it takes me while to find where he threw it if I...

Re: Newbie fly caster using bass bugs

All of the above advice is great. I don't throw poppers very often and usually have to adjust on the rare occasions I do. Last night I was throwing a large popper with my 5wt. I moved up to an 8...

Re: Testing out a New Fly to Buy

A few years ago I did one of the free casting lesson work shops at bass pro. After the lesson they wanted me to try out every rod they had in hopes of making a sale.
