I fish from kick-boats and kayaks in warm water all the time (200+ days a year). I've had snakes (both venomous and non-venomous) swim by me and toward me. I've had beavers and nutrea swim near me....

you might check with Gander Mt. (if there's one in your area) I picked up a SA 5 wt kit (rod, reel, line, backing, leader x 2, video, and fly case) for $80 not too long ago. It is a great little rig....

I fished 18 bodies of water in 2007. I intend to fish more in 08. I can throw the yak in the bed of the truck and save a lot of gas by not towing the boat.
