I fish from kick-boats and kayaks in warm water all the time (200+ days a year). I've had snakes (both venomous and non-venomous) swim by me and toward me. I've had beavers and nutrea swim near me....

you might check with Gander Mt. (if there's one in your area) I picked up a SA 5 wt kit (rod, reel, line, backing, leader x 2, video, and fly case) for $80 not too long ago. It is a great little rig....

I have a 4 wt and have used it for crappie, bream, and small (18 inch) bass. It works great. I have a new fiberglass 6 1/2 foot 3 wt that I've yet to use but I'm sure it will be as much fun as the 4...
