Re: Rio Gold in touch review

Sweet n' Salt,

I hear you about regular non stretch Gold being a superior line for dry flies. What I have finally admitted to myself doing most of my trout fishing in SW Pennsylvania, is that I...

Re: Rio Gold in touch review

What exactly are those specific differences? I had a conversation with Rio and what I was told is besides the low stretch core, everything else is the same. Taper, coating, weight, etc. I also...

Re: Hatch 4 Plus Finatic on Scott S4 6wt

One other point to make regarding capacity. Hatch grossly overestimates the backing capacity of their reels. I have found this to be be true on the 3, 4 and 5 plus large arbor models.

Re: Reel for a Scott Radian 5 wt

Yes, much too heavy. The Radian 905 should have a reel with a dry weight in the range of 4.5 - 4.8oz to balance with your finger about 1 inch back from the front of the grip.

Re: Scott M Series 9' 5 weight

I was told last year that the M blanks are their own taper. Faster than the G2 but not as fast as the Radian or older S4's. Very nice rods.

Re: Reel for a Scott Radian 5 wt

I have used both a Hatch 4 plus and an Abel Super 4N on mine. I prefer the Abel 4N over the Hatch. They are both about the same weight with the Abel being a few tenths of an ounce lighter.

For a...

Re: Hatch 4 Plus Finatic on Scott S4 6wt

Yes, I have. I have 3 6wt rods. A Sage ONE 691, Scott S4 697 and a Scott Radian 690. On the ONE I use a Speedster 3 for perfect balance and the reel has tons of room for all the backing I want. On...

Re: Hatch 4 Plus Finatic on Scott S4 6wt

The Hatch 5 plus is the correct reel pairing for this rod. The 4 is too light and does not have enough capacity to be a proper 6 wt reel.

Re: Orvis helios 2 question

I have a 904 tip flex and love it. Very versatile, super light weight and nice fit and finish. That being said I did not like the mid flex H2 rods at all. I felt like the mid flex version bent in...

Re: Sage Method comparison to Sage One (one guys perspective)

When I was shopping for my 9' 6wt, it came down to the Radian and the One. Honestly it could have gone either way but I was able to get the One for a better price so that sealed the deal for me. I...

Re: Sage Method comparison to Sage One (one guys perspective)

If you haven't already done this, compare the Radian 6 to the Sage One 6. I just added a One 691. Both are excellent 6 weights and when comparing them side by side, it was a tough decision to make...

Re: Scott Radian line. recommendation?

Shortly after this thread started, I have been fishing the Rio Gold In Touch version on my Radian 905 and have become very happy with it.

Re: Redington CT on sale again

I also just bought I 8'-6 5wt for my son who is just learning to fly fish. Great rod for $75. I paired it up with a Lamson Konic II that was on sale for $89.

Todd,

Thanks for letting me know that you confirmed this with Rio. I am glad to to hear that there are no variations other than the core. I have fished the intouch Rio Gold a few times in the...

Re: Help on buying a youth rig

I recently bought my son a Redington Classic trout 8'-6" 5wt from Cabela's for $75 and paired it up with a Lamson Konic II size 2 reel from Sierra Trading for $90. A great decent quality rod and...

Yes, a great amount of insight here. To your point about overseas rods. I recently bought my first ever non US made fly rod. A Redington Classic Trout for my son who is just learning to fly fish. ...

Re: Lamson Speedster for life?

The One is a light rod. The 1.5 size may pair better with the 590. I recommend you try both sizes before you decide.

Re: InTouch Rio Gold?

No, my photos show the tapers of the Gold InTouch vesus the regular Gold. It IS NOT the Perception. So whoever says the taper is identical between the 2 versions of Gold is a bit mistaken, the...

Re: Want a new 4wt - hung up on length

You are losing about 3". Don't sweat it. The reason that rod was designed to the length it is may be that the action was too slow at 9'. Who knows but adjusting length in a rod design can be a way...

Re: Lamson Guru question

What's really the functional advantage to concave spools? Generally, most spools are concave on the portion of the spool section and that section is generally filled up by backing. So in effect your...

Re: Abel vs. Hatch Debate

For me, what decides whether I use the Hatch or Abel is the need to change spools. If so, I prefer the Hatch. Both the Super N's and the Finatic's look great to me. The Abel is a little more...

I also have the Super 4n on my 9'-0 5wt Radian and really think the two pair up nicely. No one will go wrong with either the Abel or the Hatch reels. Each have their own positives and negatives but...

Re: Rio Gold Differences InTouch vs Regular

I would also like to know if the head weights are the same. Supposedly the 2 versions were exactly the same except for the core. I am not so sure that is the case.

Re: Abel Creek Discontinued?

I noticed that as well. I actually like the design of the Creeks better than the Trout. Oval porting and the option of a large arbor or mid made it very appealing.
