Re: LMF - Zones II and III

From what I hear, the lower zones have been rendered almost useless by last year's floods and damage. I have given the Presbyterian Falls a go and it appeared to be almost inert, but that was before...

Interesting Conundrum

As someone who targets both species, may I recommend two separate solutions. One http://www.redington.com/cat.php?k=50169 , the Redington Predator series for Bass - - - and it comes in a rod / reel...

Re: Deep Woods Off *40*

We have a few "skeeters" down here in Texas as well. I won't go on about how big they are. So, what is the best bug spray? Does anyone use the "Buzz-Off" clothing? It's expensive for sure. We have...

Re: Favorite redfish flies

And I am wondering - are these places (I assume in the Delta), reachable by kayak, and "safe" for those of us who are boatless. "Safe" as in not getting run over, and not getting chomped by gators?

Re: Saltwater reels

I hadn't heard that that particular Lamson is from barstock. It must be, but their site does not specifically say that it is. I think they use the same drag in all their reels. TFO has a new line of...

Re: Any flies for carp

No cottonwoods where we fish for them. We have had luck with bitters and even green woolly buggers at times. Yup - presentation is key. Might check this guy out as he specializes in Carp around here...

Re: Switch Rod ???

Best I can tell - great for nymphing, big rods great for two hand casting in surf. I threw one at TFO the other day, and they have a real learning curve if you don't have a lot of experience (like...

Re: New Wading Boots

Apparently, there will be a whole new crop of boots coming out in the spring. The two that are quickly becoming legend before they are even out are the Vibram soled Simms and Cloudveil. They are said...

Re: St. Croix Reign Fly Rod 6 wt or 8 wt?

That's a pretty complicated question, but if you need the six to load fast put the 7 line on it. I don't hear too much about going the other direction 7 line on 8 rod. It really isn't so simple....

Re: Best Times for Guadalupe?

Let me add another datail; there's an "Orvis guide" who lives up here but fishes Oklahoma and Texas, and is a real hardcore "bug guy" (entomologist Texas A&M), I went to a presentation of his today...

Re: Best Times for Guadalupe?

OR, skip those stocker trout and try Stripers or spring Wipers up here! But, if you are right there on the Gulf Coast, I must wonder why you don't attack the salt? texasflycaster

Re: Best Times for Guadalupe?

Well, I haven't done all the Guadalupe, but rest assured it is not a year around tailwater - Central Texas heat takes care of that. I will probably make it there this season and I think the consensus...

Re: Tyler-Longview area

We're a ways off in DFW area, but are planning a trip to Broken Bow, Oklahoma, and there's always some Texas folks up there. If you are ready for trout, they may be stockers, but it's a good learning...

Re: Largemouth bass rod?

i think it generally agreed the Sage bass specialty rods are 1 to 2 weights heavier than listed. Down here in Texas, the TFO line pretty much rules with the Axiom line so fast that an Axiom 9 would...
