Re: Parachutes

Sage one, are you talking about the parachute pattern effectiveness or the posted wing? If you are asking about the wing itself I don't think it makes too much difference but then again I have more...

Re: Bigger & Better... "The Fly Box 90!"

Jerry, just wanted to let you know that the box of flies that Mridenour and troutn gifted me from you worked great on the AuSable in June. My wife and I did great with the Adams and the Sulfurs out...

Re: 5 Weight Bass Flies?

Fish a Wulff Ambush 5 wt line and you can throw some pretty big stuff (1/0 and 2) with that. It is a short heavy head with a pretty abrupt taper that loads your fly rod like a sinker loads a spinning...

Re: St Croix's standing in the fly fishing scheme of things

I believe that they aren't considered top tier mainly because of price. They make really good rods and in the past their warranty and service was pretty good. Friend of mine broke his Legend ultra 8...

Re: Maybe i spent too much on my 5wt?

I think that if you want a really fast rod that there aren't very many under $400.
Most of the rod companies have those rods as their premium priced rods even in the the lower priced companies....

Re: Wading boots ?

I've used the discontinued leather Simms Guide boots (two pair in fifteen years) for years. I fish and walk quite a lot and had no complaints. Even had the the toe cap replaced after five years at a...

Re: How to evaluate the risk of Smaller-sized Companies?

I would not let a lack of an unconditional warranty keep me from owning and fishing a rod that I like. I have broken a rod before and paid for the repair. I liked the rod and it was less than the...

Re: Rio Outbound Short help!

If you are casting BIG flies then also use a BIG piece of yarn and get it good and soaked to practice with. It will more closely match what you are trying to do or practice cast on the water (...

Re: Casting fatigue question

If you are doing a lot of false casting to work the line back out every cast then you might want to consider one of the ultra short shooting heads (e.g. Wulff Ambush heads or full line) with a...

As much as I like to think that it isn't about the catching, whenever I find myself hiking along a river or lake, I sure wish I had brought a rod. So being in nature sure is great, it is just a...

Re: Are specialized fly lines overkill?

I don't think that you need all the different lines that are out there. But there are some radically different specialty lines for specific situations that could help. I use the Wulff Ambush lines...

Re: St. Croix Avid 6'6" 4 weight

Re: Pflueger medalist
