Re: Before I waste time and material,,a question gang

I've noticed experimenting here,,that my turkey biots, while longer, are not as durable as the goose biots...sometimes even fracturing right on the hook as I tie. Maybe it's just the turkey feathers I...

Re: Before I waste time and material,,a question gang

Yep, you sure can.. you can even tie a dubbing underbody to get something not quite as 'hard' as thread.

One reason to tie an underbody on a biot bodied fly is when the biots get wet, whatever...

Re: mayfly hatch

I have a buddy who "fished this hatch"... and yes, it was a Hex hatch... he sent me pics of some bugs he collected with quarters as examples for the size and some of them were lots bigger than the...

Re: Thread Control?

I learned more in 3 hours with Wayne Luallen than in months of other instruction.

Wayne was able to explain to me what I didn't know about what I had learned, for lack of a better way to explain...

Re: Hook Frustrations

Here's another thread that tells you it's all a matter of opinion... so no matter how good the advice might be, you'll have to wade in deeper until you fall, then you'll know you went too far =)

Re: What hooks DO YOU NEED to use?

What do you think it is that causes this- the narrower gape or the straight eye. Those are the chief differences in how they're constructed.

The 200R is a longer shank (3xl compared to 2xl) and...

Re: What hooks DO YOU NEED to use?

Don't disagree with you... but for me, it's 'value' more than 'price'.

I'll pay a couple bucks more per hundred for hooks that don't bend, break and are uniformly sized.

I think any of us who...

What hooks DO YOU NEED to use?

I was thinking about the thread regarding the two similar but different hooks that had similar manufacturer descriptions and also about the HUGE number of different hooks I own from 40+ years of...

Re: Dai Riki Hook Size information

Dai Riki's own language makes no sense describing these two:

DAI-RIKI #305 STANDARD DRY FLY HOOK Similar to Mustad's #94840 for traditional dry-flys, beetles, spiders, etc. Sizes-8, 10, 12. 14,...

Re: Finally back to the bench!

Tal vez debería escribir algo de tutoriales paso a paso y los informes de viajes de pesca en español y publicarlos aquí. ¿Se puede obtener crédito por lo que el curso funciona? =)

Re: Annoyed with myself

In Harry's instructions, he uses cape/neck hackles rather than saddles and ties in the hackle and starts wraps at the TOP of the post, coming down... and for an Adams, he wraps on color first...

Re: Annoyed with myself

There is a lot of frustration in tying parachutes related to the materials... especially the hackles you use. If the stems are in the least bit twisted or 'squarish' at all, the hackles won't wind...

Re: Hendrickson's

+1 on this for most ALL flies, something few fail to recognize. Unless you tie a white or tinsel underbody, this will be the case. Even with white, when it gets wet, a bronze hook shank will darken...

Re: any experience with j:son flies?

This is my common practice. I consider them "example" or "type" flies.

I do the same when I travel and fish- I buy samples of the local ties, especially hoppers and stonefly nymphs to see what...

Re: Where to guy TMC 518 #28-32?

an indicator, like a bright CDC puff on top of them helps to see them (at least with the 22s and 24s I fish) and I've done some "pre-snelling" of these small flies- a 6-8" 6x or 7x tippet chunk with...
