Re: Gold/GPX Any Difference ?

Not a huge fan of either, but they both have their respective uses.

GPX takes a lot of hits on this forum. Mostly from longer range, dry fly specialists.

However, it does work well for some...

Re: 4 wt. Rods

My 2 cents. I have a several great #4's, as they fulfill my needs for the small and medium sized streams that I get to fish the most.

Favorites with med to med fast actions:

Scott G2 844/4...

Re: Rod and reel for small stream fishing - recommendations?

My all-time favorite small water rod is the Scott G2 8'4", #4. I get more joy out of casting and fishing this rod than any other in my extensive collection. Couldn't be a more perfect rod for my...

Re: The (Un)Official Sage Mod Thread

Spent a little time comparing the Mod 490 and Circa 489, side by side. Definitely different rods, the Circa is definitely slower action, with a softer tip. However, after 50' or so, they both kind...

Re: The (Un)Official Sage Mod Thread

Finally got my hands on the new Sage Mod and the other new offerings from Farbank. The Mod definitely looks better in person than in pics. The green is a brilliant almost iridescent shade. I...

Re: Cabelas no longer carrying the Classic Trout?

Cabelas sells the Redington Classic Trout at or below wholesale cost most of the time. So, most normal dealers have quit carrying them. It's a good deal for consumers, but not so much for dealers. ...

Re: Rio Intouch Perception... does it "loosen up" a bit

Find that I need to stretch all of the "non-stretch/low-stretch" core lines.

Seriously, tie the tip to a tree or something solid, pull all of the line off of the reel, and pull and stretch the...

Re: Radian, what line works best for you ???

Personally, I like the Rio Perception on my 9', #6 and 8 1/2', #5 Radians. But the Rio Gold also works pretty well. The tailing loop issue may be that you may be "over casting" the rod a bit. I...

Re: Anyone thinking about getting the Sage MOD rod?

Scout.

I think that both the Scott G2 and the Radian fit in the territory between the Medium action Sage Circa and the Fast action One.

The G2 closer to the Circa, with a stiffer butt section...

Re: Anyone thinking about getting the Sage MOD rod?

My thought on the Circa, is that it is fantastic for dry flies from 30' and in. I think that this is what it was designed for, and it delivers in spades. It can certainly be cast further, but loses...

Re: Anyone thinking about getting the Sage MOD rod?

I kind of not feeling any interest in the new Sage offerings. I am pretty sure that they all will be good to excellent performers. The the new bright color scheme and kitchy model names are kind of...

Re: New Hardy SINTRIX Rods

FWIW, I owned a Zenith 9', #5 for a couple of years. Casted and fished it quite a bit, tried like heck to like it. Never did, and sold it earlier this summer. My conclusion is, after you get past...

Re: New Hardy SINTRIX Rods

I respectfully disagree fellas. Point of origin does matter.

I am willing to spend $800 for a US made, premium rod vs. an imported, Asian made stick.

1. These US manufacturers pay workers and...

Re: New Hardy SINTRIX Rods

Trying not to be a downer or xenophobic. But, $800 for a Korean built rod?

No matter how good these rods are, that is a lot of money for any rod, especially an imported, Asian built rod.

It...

I just want to clarify, that it isn't that I don't think that some of the more technical posters on this forum don't have valid points to make. They do, and their thoughts should be welcome on this...

Re: The bottom line pretty much ?

Great article and fun Thread. Can't help but add my 2 cents.

Are the new "wonder" rods "better" than their predecessors? In many ways, the answer might be, yes. I own and love a couple of Scott...

Re: Airflo Kelly Galloup streamer float fly line

Have this line in #6 and #7. This is the best floating Streamer/Big Fly flyline that I have used to this point. Probably a 1/2 line wt to full line weight overloaded, but not super over heavy like...

Re: Rio In Touch VS standard

I have found that if you cast a Std Rio Gold vs. an In-Touch Rio Gold in the same line weight right next to each other, they perform very differently. The In-Touch casts a little "heavier" than the...

Re: Six weights, Radian vs Zenith

In my humble opinion. It's not even close. Radian all the way. USA made, much more refined. Fantastic dry fly, hopper/dropper and nymphing rod. I like other #6's for straight streamer work (NRX,...

Re: Scott G2 series ?

Have several G2's, my favorites are the #5, 8'8",#4, 8'8", and #4, 7'7". Best for small freestones and short to medium casts - wind, long casts, and big payloads - not so much. Roll casts and mends...

Re: Sage Mod (and other new rods at EFTTEX 2015)

Interesting... Can't quite figure out where the MOD is supposed to fit. "Konnetic tech, for small rivers and delicate presentations" (paraphrase). Doesn't that pretty much describe the Circa?

Re: This line weight thing... True weight, half heavy etc....

Unfortunately, trying to apply the AFTMA standards to modern flylines might be an exercise in futility. Those standards are for the first 30' of a given flyline. This metric has little to do with...

Experiences with Articulated Streamers and Releasing Fish?

Got back into fly tying this winter after a couple of decades hiatus. I became enamored with the newer Articulated Streamer patterns. I tied up several and have been anxious to try them out. This...
