Re: Taking 6 Days in Colorado, where too?

It looks like Buena Vista fellas and the Ark. I only have a few days now instead of 6. I'll check out ArkAnglers but if anyone has suggestions for Middle and Upper Basin let me know.

Re: Do you use a Lanyard?

Yes, I use a Morningstar Lanyard and a small FishPond Flintridge waistpack. I ditched the astronaut vest and love the light setup.

Re: Taking 6 Days in Colorado, where too?

Thanks guys, keep the suggestions coming. I like the idea if the Roaring Fork and Frying Pan given the proximity to towns...easy basing options.

Taking 6 Days in Colorado, where too?

All,

I am taking 6 days off in September to fly fish. I live in Colorado Springs but want to try some places beyond the usual South Platte highly-technical-size 24 trico-areas reserved for expert...

Re: Best Fly Fishing Vehicles

I just bought a Forester. I liked my F150 but want to retire soon and get off the grid. Needed something good on gas and with a warranty. I looked at all the compact SUVs and thought the Forester...

Is a Honda CRV a good SUV for fishing?

I may have to part with my F-150. My company relocated and my commute is going from 9 mins to 30 each way, not to mention meeting around town several days a week. $90/week for gas is simply too...

Re: Orvis Clearwater?

I recently bought a 7ft 4wt Clearwater rod and plan to fish it for the first time this weekend. Can't wait. I paired it with a Lamson Litespeed.

Re: Rod for Colorado

I have a Scott 8ft 4wt that is great for the smaller rivers and streams. Nice versatile rod.

Re: 2013 5-Weight Shootout

They slam some of these rods so bad it almost sounds like you could never catch a fish with anything but the top rated rods. My Sage One catches fish just fine.

Re: Name Your Trout Top Ten Nymph & Dry Flies

Quite honestly, I really don't fish with 20 fly patterns but here is my list, pretty much the usual boring suspects:

Wets:
Pheasant tail (bead head/flashback) and unweighted
Copper John (red),...

Landon Mayer yesterday...advice on flies and tactics

Landon Mayer was at the Peak Fly Shop here in Colorado Springs yesterday and gave a 1 hour lecture on "Fishing the Four Seasons" here in CO. He emphasized the winter season especially given the time...

Re: Winston GVX on sale everywhere

Winston claims the GVX is a fast action rod. Does experience with the rod bear that out or is it really more of a medium or medium fast rod compared to say the Sage line-up?

Re: Some tactical questions (trout fishing)

I decided to get the Clearwater 7 ft 4 wt. I can use my Lamson Litespeed reel with 4 wt line. Orivs had a $15 coupon last week and free shipping so about $180 to the door. Will cast it in a couple...

Re: Some tactical questions (trout fishing)

That is a very nice fish for a 3 wt. I like the way my 4 wt A4 casts...will need to try the 5 wt.

I see that Orvis now makes the Clearwater rod in a 7 ft 4 wt. It has some great online reviews. ...

Re: Some tactical questions (trout fishing)

Hey guys,

I'm in Colorado Springs. Love it here but there is no "great" place to fish unless I drive an hour or more. Not complaining though, could be worse. I have family in the Black Hills so...

Re: Some tactical questions (trout fishing)

Below is a pic I snapped of one of the colorful small browns along with a link to photos of this beautiful creek. I called the local fly shop and they swear by the Scott G2 8 1/2 ft 4 wt for this...

Re: Some tactical questions (trout fishing)

That is interesting, I actually switched to a single small pheasant tail (size 22) and actually caught just as many fish as trailing it. My gut feeling is a shorter rod may be the ticket. Maybe a...

Some tactical questions (trout fishing)

I just returned from several days in the Black Hills fishing Spearfish Canyon where I grew up. It was great, perfect fall weather and I landed about a dozen trout over the couple afternoons I...

Re: George Anderson's "4-Weight Shootout"

I want to cast the G2 and BIIIX side by side. I know the Winston is a great rod and was surprised to see the G2 lag in this test. Lots of G2 followers. Would also like to try the Redington CT (or...

Local Fly Shop or Buy Online?

While I like the idea of supporting local business, some online dealers offer free shipping, no sales tax and even things like free fly line with reels and/or rods. And, the bigger outfitters tend to...

Re: Suggestion on Simms waders?

Fit is critical. That is why I went with the Simms G3 Guide Waders. I am 6 ft 1 in with short legs (32 inch inseam) and have a size 13 foot.

The G3 and G4 are the only waders I know of on the...

My assertion is that these rods in Anderson's test are not all that far apart when one looks at what matters to most of us...performance at various distances. Let's look at the first 10 rods and...

Re: need help

I'm no expert but for it's worth the 590-4 Z-Axis has a cult following out here in Colorado and is especially popular with guides. They swear by it and fish it everywhere, dries, droppers, nymph...

Re: Action and Lengths Best For Beginners.

There are some Redington 4 wt CTs on eBay (new) for about $100. Kind of hard to pass up really.
