Re: Sage X Review

Funny, a lot of people think the Radian is elegant in appearance. I think it is classy looking not only rod actions differ among casters, but apparently cosmetics of a rod do too :D

Re: New Air rod from winston

Maybe we all should just go back to bamboo. I mean Ted Williams didn't need 60m modulus graphite to cast a 100 feet. Sucker did it with bamboo and glass.

Re: Sage One clearance

I imagine there will be a decent run on the close out One's, leaving less to buy the X.

Re: The X ...for Sage fans...

Perhaps the One was built to recapture the XP fans, and the X is out to please the Z-Axis fans.

Re: Scott Radian versus Sage ONE...

Like I said I hope this helps cheapen the Z-Axis and XP on the used market.

Re: Sage 2016

Sage wants to make an impressive entrance with this ' X ', bring back the classic sage brown color blanks. Retro could be cool, instead of mixing their greens resulting in some flamboyant...

Re: Bauer, Galvan and Abel SD

Well I hope Winston keeps all Bauers made in the USA! Hate to see the lower tier reels come from overseas. Don't become like Ross. Love their older stuff, but the newer...well, not so much.

Re: Sage 690 One?

I would think if the One goes on closeout sales that their might be an increase in XP's and Z's on the used market for competitive (decent) prices, and that might be better for some than buying a One.

Re: Streamer Rod

Alaska streamer fishing? Go bigger because chance of landing something big is real, salmon and large trout. 7 or 8 weight is best, or strong stiff 6 (think Sage TCR) IMHO. If you go regular 5/6 you...

Re: Todd similar to SAGE SLT

I have sold a rod or two to only go back a few years later and buy it again. Newer is not always better, and sometimes a certain rod has that solid connection feel with you. The Sage Slt is also not...

Re: best reel for a Scott Meridian 7 weight 9' 0"

Wel, there are many great choices out there. Take a look at the Galvan Torque T-6 or T-8. I think it is reel that competes very well with the 600 dollar reels. IMHO

Re: Charlton

Correct me if wrong please, but I read somewhere that Jack Charlton designed, or help design and build the Sage 3000D series of fly reels. I do know that the first ones were made in the USA, and on...

Re: Can you tell me about SAGE XP action? This is NOT a "what to buy."

I believe the XP and GLX of loomis are still standing the test of time. Both great rods. Both perform comparable with new rods IMHO. When you get your hands on one of these oldies for les than...

Re: Anderson's 2016 5wt reel shootout soon to be released. Predictions??

The discontinued Bauer MZ series was very nice with a well designed drag adjustment opposite of the handle. I have the MZ6, nice big fish fighting reel with a very smooth drag.

Yes the Gunnison is a great reel, the Cimarron is not exactly the ugly sister either! ... well the new one is ugly, talking older Cimarrons'

Re: Old rod/New rod

I have seen the 486/389/279's go for 450-580. There have been a couple 490-4 and 590-4's that have commanded high prices too. These upper prices usually mean the rod is also in pretty good...

Re: 9wts.???

If in Alalska....No. Chum can be brutal. A 9 weight is a good choice for Chum, but many use an 8.

Re: The least fatigue 10wt

You might find a GLX or recently closed out NRX lighter than the Salt (NRX closing out due to new color scheme I have read). Save a few bucks.

Also the Meridian is something to look in to.
