Re: Newbies first fish on a fly rod

Nice work! That fish is way bigger than my first on a fly rod, and like you I will never forget the place, fly, or the fish.

Sage ll 279-2

SAGE LL Graphite III, 7'-9", 2 piece rod. This is a factory rod that has been used. Most recently used on a small creek in University Place last summer. I'll post pictures this evening when I get...

Re: Hardy Zenith or St. Croix Avid

I have never cast those two rods so I won't be of much help. However, I am intrigued by your choice of rods for comparison. It may be helpful to describe what has drawn you to those two choices.

Re: Do you find tapatalk useful

I don't use the email alerts but rather the notifications directly from tapatalk, that way they go straight to tapatalk. I also don't browse by unread posts, which it sounds like is important to you....

Re: Bauer RX

I've got a few bauer's with the drag on the "wrong" side. Hasn't bothered me. I think they are solid reels. Would love to try out the RX someday.

I'm not a reel guy though and I seem to just buy...

Re: Do you find tapatalk useful

I find it very useful. I follow 7 forums, 5 of which are fly fishing forums, and this one app provides easy access to each of them. Handling PM's, uploading pictures, switching between forums,...

Re: Leader and flies icing up

I lived in Des Moines, IA fall of 2011 - spring 2013. It was my first go at warm water species and it was a lot of fun. Probably caught more fish in 2012 than any other year of my life. As far as...

Re: 8wt: St. Croix Legend Elite SW and Sage Xi3

Been tempted by this one as well. If others on here aren't aware, that washingtonflyfishing site has a very active classifieds section and draws nationwide participation. I live in washington but...

Re: Your Fly rod brand of choice

I must be drawn to S's because my favorite brands are SAGE, St Croix, and Scott. SAGE is by far my favorite and of my couple dozen rods they make up 75% or so. Their customer service has been top...

Re: St Croix Legend Ultra is back

It's interesting to see others opinions on this. I have the same 9' 6wt LU and it's my favorite nymphing rod. I much prefer it over my XP, Optistream, Streamdance GLX HLS, and Sage One for Nymphing....

Re: St Croix Legend Ultra is back

I've got the 9' 6wt LU. I love this rod. Easily my most fished rod and I have several other 6 wts that cost much more. It's been durable, is forgiving on casting stroke issues, has plenty of power,...

Re: Got to cast a Sage ONE today...

Interesting observation on the lines for the ONE. Many people suggest over lining that rod. I happen to have a 5wt ONE and for me it casts best with a true 5 wt line. Seems the OP had similar...

Re: Lamson Konic Size II Reel + Spare Spool

I'm going to hold out a while longer before I decide to lower the price. I appreciate the interest.

Lamson Konic Size II Reel + Spare Spool

The spool has been used 2-3 times and the reel about 10. These have been backups that I no longer need.

Both come with lamson reel bags, original boxes and the maintenance and operation paperwork....

Re: Help casting new butterstick

Well, how'd it go?

There has been good advice given so I don't plan to add much. I will say that glass rods in general are easier to overpower than a fast action graphite rod. Pay attention on...

Re: Orvis helios 2 question

I had a mid flex 5 wt and I'll echo what others state here. Get a tip flex. They are great rods. I got a good deal on a mid flex (it's now clear why) and while it was a decent rod, it's not anywhere...

Re: Now this is Odd... a fishing board 'telling me' what I can/can't have installed .

Maybe I'm a little biased because WFF is my favorite site on the planet, but I don't think they are asking you to turn off any virus detection or malware programs. Websites need a revenue stream to...
