Re: Sage 590 SP

It's up on the big auction site, still 3 days plus on the auction.

I did set a reserve price that hasn't been met yet, but that's not surprising with this much time left.

Holler at me there...

Re: tfo bvk vs. tfo mangrove

As I understand it, the BVK and Mangrove actually use the same exact blank, tapers, etc. Mangrove has the TiCR coating which makes it tougher to break and tougher in the butt.

BVK's will break...

Sage 590 SP

Bought a new rod, so it was either this or my 4711 that had to stay on as my dry fly rod for small-medium rivers... Can't give up the LL.

This is a custom rod, but think it was made from a kit......

Re: Looking to add another rod...

I would not necessarily skip the 4 wt either. I have a Sage 4711 LL and it's crazily different from my 5 wt XP or 5 wt z axis. While I have a 2wt LL for the smallest creeks, etc. I find that my...

Re: Best rod for throwing articulated streamers?

My Sage XP 590 is my go-to streamer rod, throw some with my TFO BVK 7wt when they're really big, but would love to have a 691 or 790 XP. Would love the chance to fish a Bank Robber too, I'll bet...

Re: Best TFO Rod for trout (5 WT)

The Mangrove is awesome, but wouldn't be my choice for trout... I would go with the BVK if you like a fairly fast rod. The Mangrove is basically the same blank, same tapers, but is stiffer and...

Re: What a crappy day fishing

Agreed, some days may sting for a bit but every one of them teaches me something new. One of my most memorable days was when I first moved to Vail in '03 and set out to conquer Gore Creek. I...

Re: Need some reviews tfo bvk or tfo large larbor

Heard lots of not-so-good things about the bvk reels, almost bought one to match my BVK rod but my buddies talked me out of it, said that while they're very light, they aren't very sturdy... Bent...

Re: Split shot or wrap around?

I use non-toxic shot, keep it in all sizes, but think I'm going back to tungsten putty... I feel like it gets hung up less, and when you pull it, it is malleable enough to elongate along your line,...

Re: Wow Patagonia (new Atom Stealth pack on the way)

I was really pumped about getting one for Christmas, too. In practice, the sling happens to sit right on the adjustment for my wader strap, not as comfortable as I'd hoped... Killer pack though

Re: Nymphing rods

Just got an amazing deal on a 10' 4 wt Zenith on steepandcheap, really pumped. I had a Sage 99 that would've been great if I fished huge rivers, but it lacked in feel for the applications I was...

Re: Fly Fishing Duffel Bag

The taco bag is greatness for the car, will hold boots and waders for two, plus enough room for sandals, socks, etc. After a trip I dry my stuff out and wash what needs washing, it goes back in the...

Re: Best Rod/Reel Combo around $400-500

I bought my 590 Z for $305 on that site, was patient and bought one without a tube or sock so got a pretty good deal.. No skin off my back, it stays in the travel case now as it's my go-to

Re: Custom Made Rods on Ebay

Until TFO started making inexpensive rods on great blanks, I would have agreed with this statement about price of reels... However, I find this to not necessarily be true at all when tackling big...
