Onto the Next Rod...Switch for Steelhead

With the 9wt reel ordered a little over a month ago for my bonefish trip in November, I finally pulled the trigger on the matching rod this past Saturday. On its way is a 9'9wt NRX, which should...

Re: Nautilus NV 8/9 spools

The short answer is yes you can buy spools for this reel. Now, on to the long answer...

The old NV 8/9 when fitted with the G spool was the NV 8/9 G-7. Both the 8/9 and what we will call the G-7...

Re: Sage Salt.... Wow!

So far what I've been hearing is like S&S has said...the Salt is the first rod to take a run at the NRX. With that being said, I'm also hearing that while it performs great up close and at mid...

Re: Abel Creek love

This is one of the worst discontinuations ever! The Creek is much more versatile than the Trout, yet they discontinue it, makes no sense!

Re: Nautilus vs Tibor

What don't you like about Nautilus?

I agree, if looks mattered Tibor Signature would win hands down! Love the Graphite w/ Teal drag, would look great on an. NRX!

I don't disagree with you that...

Re: Nautilus vs Tibor

IMO the Hatch 7+ is a great 8wt reel. You said you are looking to add an 8/9, so since you already have an 8 I'll make my recommendation for the 9. I recently was in a similar situation and while I...

Re: Allen Trout II vs. Krakan

Yeah, I was questioning if the Trout would be a better option due to weight.

Haha, I hear you, and trust me she gets what she wants! She already did hook me up. She got me the Patagonia Sling...

Allen Trout II vs. Krakan

Hey guys,

Looking for a 5wt reel for the gf to go on a TFO 8'6" 5wt Professional. Originally she liked the Orange Allen Trout II, but after seeing the Emerald Allen Kraken she seems to be...

Re: Clearwater vs Access Rod and Reel Size Questions for Newbie

Do not, I repeat, do not purchase the Orvis Clearwater reel!!! The first outfit I purchased was a 10'8wt Orvis Clearwater outfit and I can say without hesitation the Orvis Clearwater reel is the...

Re: Nice Little Addition to the Reel Collection

Yeah, the color is safe with either rod, thank god! lol I was 100% sold on NRX until I started seeing more and more on Salt. Still leaning toward NRX, but either way the blue reel is the way I...

Nice Little Addition to the Reel Collection

So, I wanted to post this because there were so many threads/comments/advice that guided me to this decision that I wanted to share the end result with everyone who helped during the process. As...

Re: Abel - Tibor - Hatch

Just curious what made you make the selection you did? Of the 6 reels mentioned in this thread that would have been the last one I would have chose. Just love to hear what drives people to make the...

Re: Clearwater vs Access Rod and Reel Size Questions for Newbie

Lots of good info, but I guess I'll throw my 2 cents in too. Like everyone has already stated 5wt is considered 1st rod to many, but they are trout fishermen. In this case I would not go with a 5wt...

Re: What essentials do I have to have to get started?

Yes, I am big on buying quality waders. If you are cold and wet you will not be having fun while on the river. IMO you NEED waders right in the beginning. Fly fishing is tough, attempting to fly...

Re: Sage Salt.... Wow!

Would love to hear more about this rod. Seems as though this is the first rod that is really making a run at challenging the NRX as the "King" of the salt. I was completely set on picking up a...

Re: Ultragreen Maxima

I love it! I recently started building my own leaders for steelhead. I use 5' of Maxima Chameleon 20lbs for butt section, 2' of Maxima Ultragreen 15lbs & 2' of 12lbs for the mid section to a swivel...

Re: What essentials do I have to have to get started?

Sounds good, that's a good workable budget to get everything you need to get started and be able to get quality stuff. At that range, if it were me, this is what I'd be looking at...

Re: What's "high end", "mid-price" & "low end"?

This is tough to make a general blanket price range. If you are talking about glass rods or 2 handed rods the ranges would probably be a little different. I'll base this on single handed graphite...

Hey Guys,

Just curious if the retrieve can be switched on an Allen Kraken and if so how difficult is it to do?

Thanks

Re: A thought about the business-mid priced rods

Burk, it's funny you bring this up because this is the exact situation I was in. Was between getting an 8wt & 10wt Scott Tidal or a 9wt NRX for a trip to Islamorada/Biscayne Bay this coming...
