Re: Only in Northern Maine?

Northern Minnesota an get snow this time of year also, and I saw that International Falls had snow this week or last week... But it looks like summer had arrived now with 70+ deg weather.

Re: The Winds

+1 for bringing bug spray... A trip to the Winds a few years ago in early August (late spring) was probably the worst mosquitos I've ever run into... And I'm from MN where mosquitos are the state...

Re: Article on Minnesota's Driftless Region

That's a nice article. The fishing easements and habitat improvement are such a great use of the funding, instead of just pumping in more hatchery fish into a few public areas. I love it there,...

Re: Pike and Muskie line questions

Unfortunately, I can't help too much with the line question - I've always just muddled along with a regular WF floating line for bass or pike. Where are you going to be located in MN? I spent most...

Re: Fishing licenses

I think my most in one year is eight states in 2007 - annual in MN and WI like every year that I lived in NE MN, plus short-term licenses in Georgia and NC in March, Mass and New Hampshire in May,...

Re: 19 Days Until Wisconsin Opener

At least you never had to watch that Favre guy play for your favorite team.. it gets tiring spending 2 seasons cheering for your favorite team while at the same time hoping the starting QB blows out...

Re: 19 Days Until Wisconsin Opener

The regulation maps that Wisconsin publishes (or at least did publish up until a few years ago) generally made the regs pretty easy to figure out, even back when only some streams were open for the...

Re: Only been in Chicago once in the winter.

Paper Science

I started fly fishing while going to school there - first ever outing was on the Tomorrow downstream of Amherst during the spring C&R season... never did figure out that river. J...

Re: Only been in Chicago once in the winter.

When I woke up this morning I looked at the weather and was surprised to see that the snow we got yesterday had all melted and it had warmed up to +52 degrees here in SE Washington. Then I flipped...

Re: 2015 Fly Fishing Goals

My goals for 2015 mostly revolve around taking advantage of living here in the PNW... never know when something will draw me back to MN and these opportunities will be more rare:
1. Become...

Re: It's That Time Again, What Was Your Best Fishing Experience of 2014?

This year was a big change for me, with moving from northern MN to SE Washington at the end of June. It was also the first year in over a decade that I didn't get to take a weeklong fishing to MT...

Re: Anyone fishing on Turkey Day?

I'm planning to head out tomorrow and try to catch my first WA steelhead after moving here this summer... Fishing during 55 degree weather in late November will probably be a little nicer than...

If you end up in St Cloud, you'll definitely have...

If you end up in St Cloud, you'll definitely have access to good smallmouth fishing on the Mississippi. I grew up on the river just north of town, and fished a lot (hadn't started flyfishing yet,...

Re: Steelhead fishing in Washington State.

As a fisherman new to WA, the regulations here certainly keep you on your feet... Lots if different opening and closing days, "emergency" closures, etc. I release all the fish I catch, not just...

Re: Great Lakes Salmon and Steelhead

It's not in MN, but the Brule is a good steelhead river in the fall, and isn't any farther from Duluth than a lot of the North Shore streams.
And not to get too snooty... but there aren't any...

Re: American Journey

Andy -
Depending on which "significant birthday" you are celebrating, and your fitness level, one option you might consider is a trip to fish the backcountry of the Rocky Mountains. Most of my...

Re: Belize is out, Driftless is in - any local advice?

If you're interested in the Brule, also check with the Superior Fly Angler in Superior. That time if Sept could be early for Steel (and maybe late for browns?) and the Brule can get filthy brown and...

Re: Wind below Boysen

This is a river for tossing big articulated streamers. My best success in the Wind River Canyon has been with a S Dungeon or similar in the fall, after the flows have been dropped down. It is not a...

I've also had good experience with getting quick response from emailing St. Croix directly from their website. They...

Re: My fishing buddy is a snake!

Snakes have always creeped me out. A couple years ago a rattler rattled at me while walking along the Popo Agie in Wyoming......

Re: Suggestions near I-90 MT/ID

Thanks Fred.

I'll be driving my F150 4x4 pulling a 10' enclosed trailer, so nothing major but I don't want to stray too far off my route. I've read a lot about huge snowpack and runoff this...

Re: When and where for small mouth?

+1 for the Mississippi in MN, especially between St. Cloud down to the Twin Cities. The Menominee River on the WI border with the UP of MI is also very good.
