Re: Tying Knots

I don't sit down and practice knots but I've become proficient in the clinch knot and surgeon's knot. Good enough to tie when I'm cold or have fingerless gloves.

Snow Monster

Snow Monster is coming soon and is going to shut down Northern VA and DC. The lines at the store are crazy long but everyone is in good spirits.
I'm ready. Stocked up on PBR, Scotch, and red meat....

Re: Hook Keeper

I normally wrap the leader around my neck and then embed the hook in my forehead. This way I always know where the fly is and unravelling is easy. Been doing it for years.

Re: Are the measure nets accurate?

You'd have to actually measure the difference with a measuring tape. But, who cares? After a couple beers all our fish get bigger and they put up a horrific monster fight that took us into our...

Re: Flats Rod

Joe, the Guru and Alluvion will serve you well. As for the line, too many variables to consider for me to glance at a proper recommendation. The best I can recommend is to get two lines that fit both...

Re: Sage VXP or Approach?

I use an 8wt VXP for bass and bonefish. It's not a fast rod but it casts great and will pull in sizable fish.

Re: Flats Rod

Hi Joe, since no one has commented I'll throw something at you. Since you fish similar to me, here's what I use. I have an 8wt Sage VXP and an 8wt GLoomis Pro4X for both salt and freshwater fishing....

Re: Bass fly line

Rio Pike/Musky line with a short leader will rocket bass bugs and fat mouse flies. You have to eliminate as many back casts as you can but it will launch a heavy payload.

Re: I want to get one of the sinking leaders for fishing streamers. Need some advice

I use a 7ft sinking leader on my 5wt Helios and it really changes how I cast. I think I'm a better caster with it because it loads the rod really quick which I like. I use it for getting nymphs and...

Re: Help with kayak choices

Have you looked into inflatable kayaks? that would help with the transportation and back but cost can run high. They also take time to set up but they can get you around in the water. Also maybe a...

Re: Rent Fly Lines???

PM me your address and I'll get the line out in the mail this week. The line is about five years old but it still works. It just gets a little droopy sometimes but should work for your purposes.

Re: Rent Fly Lines???

Interesting you should post this topic because today I fished a 4wt Loop rod with a 5wt line and the rod was overwhelmed. Between the added line weight, a dry fly and the water the rod just couldn't...
