Re: How Did You Get Your Wife Into Fly Fishing?

My wife is my full time fly fishing partner. I gave her a few quick casting lessions on a golf course pond where she caught a few blue gills. Our first real trip for trout was back in 92 and we went...

Re: opnions on a Joan Wulff addition Winston 5 weight please

This rod is the original IM6 5 weight with a smaller wells grip with an indentation for your thumb. A great rod with a medium action. This 5 weight was a very popular one. I have both the IM6 and...

Re: Remove butt cap for adding weight.

The best way to remove a butt cap or reel seat is to first cover the seat area in a plastic bag then submerse it in boiling water for a few minutes. The epoxie rod builders usually use gets very soft...

Re: Why Winston BIIIX on sale?

I also wonder about his boron thing in my Winstons. I have a very accurate scale and my BIIx 9' 6 with boron and titanium guides weights 3.3 ozs. My much faster Nexus 9' 6 with no boron and Snake...

Re: Winston Question

I have way to many Winston 4 and 5 weights and am going to sell a bunch in the future. Among these are 8.5 Im6 4 and 5 weights, WT 4 and 5 weights, and GVX 4 and 6 weights. My absolute favorite 4...

Re: Suggestion for a 6wt reel

Pati, I also target big fish with small flies. I fish a 6 weight most of the time and again after trying a lot of reels looking for very smooth start up and widely variable drag I ended up with the...

Re: Suggestion for a 6wt reel

The Torque has the best drag system I have found in a trout reel with the lowest start up. I have a bunch of Abels along with a few Hatches. The dementions of the reels along with the backing...

Re: The best "all around" 9' five weight

I liked the 5 Mod a lot. Very smooth casting with an easy stroke. Very accurate in close. I didn't fish it but it would be a leathal weapon for the right rivers without a lot of wind.

Re: The best "all around" 9' five weight

Havn't heard anything about the NRX LP in this thread. Does anyone fish one? I have a chance to pick one up at a good price but would like to hear from someone besides GA. I am looking for a new dry...

Re: Winston BIII LS 9' or 8'6"?

The 8.5 4 is an incredible rod. Same taper as the old Bllt " the staff of Moses".

Re: Wader warranty question

You are correct Fred. My mistake. The neoprene feet are very hard to repair and I wouldn't even try.

Re: Wader warranty question

The best way to find leaks in breathable waders is really simple. This sounds like it couldn't work but does and is the way Simms finds leaks. Simply turn your waders inside out and spray the inside...

Re: Is Abel Losing Traction......

I own 7 Abels, 1 Hatch and 2 Galvan Torques. By far my favorites are the Galvans because of the drags low start up and their near perfect proportion ie. spool diameter and width. I need another trout...

Re: FWX or Galvan Torque?

I fish both the T5 and T6 on my Winstons. The drag systems have the lowest start up of anything I've ever owned including my Abels.

Re: 6-Weight Renaissance

My first fly rod in 1962 was a Shakespeare Wonderod HDH or 7wt. I still have one that's never been fished. Terrible casting tool! The 6s I use today seem like 3wts compared to it.

Re: 6-Weight Renaissance

I couldn't agree more with S&S on the virtues of dry fly fishing with a 6 versus a 5, especially where I fish in Montana. The added mass of the line on bigger rivers makes everything easier. When I'm...

Re: Winston IM6 vs WT, which one to keep?

I own both an older IM6 27000 series and a WT 47000 series. Mine are definitely different although supposedly the same taper. You need to try both to determine which you like the best. The newer...

Re: Winston Nexus

I agree with Mark completely. The Nexus 6 is a true 6 and a fairly fast one. I fish a GPX on mine and it loves that line.

Re: 4 and 6 weight, or just a 5?

After many years of using a 5wt I have gone to the 4/6 combo and find it covers most all my trout fishing needs. I say most all because I use a 7 and some times an 8 for streamers at times.

Re: Loops/No Loops on Backing End of Fly Line, Rigging Options to Swap?

I whip a loop in the fly line with tying thread coat with UV loon glue and use a loop to loop connection to the backing. I form the loop in the backing with a Bimini twist but a Surgens or Fishermans...
