Re: Echo 3 or Orvis?

I have a 10' six weight Echo 3 that I use for heavy nymphing and streamer fishing. It balances well with a Bauer Lhor reel, but by virtue of that extra foot in length and not extra light...

Re: 486 Radian - Save me from myself

I was hoping you bought it then decided the rods overlapped too much and sold one of the two to me😀

State of the art Orvis?

Reading that NRX close out thread got me thinking about Orvis. Does Orvis make a nice light six weight that would be comparable to an NRX, One or Radian?

Re: NRX blue/green story and closeout

It's a personal preference thing, but as much as I want a #6 nine foot NRX, those blue wraps are a deal killer to me. I prefer the green, but I thought I was in the minority on that. I'm surprised...

Re: A IMO Thought (Sage/Winston)

Making great strides? It is arguable that Scott has been if not better as that is a personal preference thing, they have been the equal to Sage and Winston for forty years. I understand the unsanded...

Re: Radian #6 ?

I have a black Galvan Torque on my #5 Radian, it balances well, looks and works great. My Ross Evo LT in grey mist also looks nice.

I think you're right and that was perfectly said.

Re: Overweighting to make Graphite Feel Like Glass?

I could see doing that as well as long as you're not spooking fish with an inappropriately heavy line. It sounds like you have a rod that doesn't load well at short distance, so you need the extra...

Re: Overweighting to make Graphite Feel Like Glass?

Ok good, your options are wide open. Do you already have a fly rod? If not will your finances limit you to one all-around rod, or can you envision working on building up a multi purpose quiver?

Re: Overweighting to make Graphite Feel Like Glass?

I personally think it's a dumb idea. If you already own the TFO and find it too fast for your liking, then over-lining a bit might slow it down, but it really screws up the way the rod is supposed to...

Re: Rod opinions. Did I get a deal?

We are truly living in the golden age of fly rods, you can find very nice fishing rods at every price point. That said, most of us don't have a desire to spend huge amounts on our tackle, we just...

Re: Winston Question

Thanks S&S. For me, if the Radian, NRX and One are fantastic fishing rods today, they won't be any less tomorrow even if Sage, Loomis or Scott introduce a new improved model. I would welcome the...

Re: Winston Question

Thanks, you're right, I have thought about selling or trading my 905 for a 906 Radian, but I know I would probably have sellers remorse and miss the fast five weight. I'm afraid S&S is right, I...

Re: Winston Question

Experimenting with different lines even pushing the envelope to include lines a whole size up or down is great forum wisdom, and you are right on with the advice re lighter lines on older softer...

Re: Winston Question

Thanks Mtbusman, that explains a lot. My WT is a three piece and is perfect for me. I remember the nine foot #5 as being glacial slow compared to my G904, while the RPL was off the charts fast. S&S...

Re: Winston Question

One thing I'm curious about. I remember test casting the original Winston IM6, Scott Pow-R-Ply, sage LL and RPL back in 1999. This was going to be my first graphite rod after 20+ years of fishing...

Re: Winston Question

The funny thing is I was wide eyed innocent about Winston, I had no idea the WT was a venerable highly regarded classic. I casted all their rods, old and new with a completely open mind and the WT...

Re: Winston Question

I used to visit the Winston factory every June as I was in Twin Bridges running a field trial. I was blissfully ignorant of all the drama and politics, and just would sample various rods on their...

Re: Radian #6 ?

We've become huge Broncos fans since our home boy Brock started. His O-line and receivers sure didn't help.

Re: Hardy Ultra Light DD or Orvis Hydros?

11--not sure if you would like me to respond to this. I still contend this is not an inertia problem, but rather a stiction and limited drag capacity problem. Which is not much of a problem for me....

Re: Sage XP vs Scott S4?

First a caveat, I've never actually cast the S4 series. That said, I've always been a Scott guy, but leaning more toward the traditional Scott G-G2 end of the line. One the other hand the Sages I've...

Re: Which rod on a $500 budget would you get

For new rods I really like the Echo3 rods at $350.00, otherwise I'd look for a used mint high end rod like that NRX LP Givda is selling.
