Re: Nautilus (as a whole)?

I spoke with the Trout Shop via phone in early August, as I recall, and they had the exact G5 in stock that I was looking for. I could have gotten that one from them, but by the time I called there...

Re: Nautilus (as a whole)?

I am not sure where you were going with your comment that NVs are not likely to be on the preseason orders for freshwater oriented shops. Both of these were large destination shops and had a...

Re: Nautilus (as a whole)?

I had planned to buy 2 new Nautilus reels this past spring, an NV G5 and a G7 from 2 different fly shops in SW Montana near where I spend the summer. One told me he already had the G5 on order and...

Re: Winter storage pontoon ?

It goes without saying that your pontoon should be dry before storing it for the winter. I just roll my tubes up and put ithem in a dry, but breathable, bag. I've kept my pontoons in an unheated...

Re: Hyde drift boats?

I am located on the Yellowstone, near Emigrant, and I have a Hyde XL low profile boat that I've had for the past couple years. Before that I had a Clackacraft low profile.

I have rowed and...

Re: Montana Fly Fishing

There is no good trout fishing in MT. However, a friend of mine and I each got 2 nice cutthroat yesterday in Wyoming 19" to 22". I hooked and lost a couple more comparable ones.

Re: Where the Yellowstone goes.

I saw it last year, and was just telling a couple friends about it the other day as we floated and fished the Yellowstone. Enjoyed it.

Re: Looking for opinions on Nautilus NV reel

Thanks for your comments. That sounds like something was defective in the drag mechanism of your particular reel. Do you think that was the case?

Re: Looking for opinions on Nautilus NV reel

I will be sure to look at these new reels when they come out.

I take good care of my cork drags now, but I'm sure there are others that are as good, or better, and easier to maintain.

Re: Looking for opinions on Nautilus NV reel

Thank you for your thoughts and input.

I, too, appreciate the importance of balancing the rod to the reel.

I've found that my ported Abel .5, at 4.6 oz, loaded with a 5 WFF line and backing...

Looking for opinions on Nautilus NV reel

I have been mainly using Abel reels for the past 15-20 years, shortly after they first came on the market. I have used Abel .5's for my everyday trout fishing, and Abel Big Game 1's for streamer...

Re: Itinerary from Bozeman to SLC (MT, WY)

Ric -

There is a KOA in Four Corners, that is a bit pricey but not bad otherwise. You'd probably want to drive a bit farther up the canyon to fish though if you stayed there. Or, there are a...

Re: Itinerary from Bozeman to SLC (MT, WY)

I would probably just head south on hwy 191 from Belgrade (that's your Bozeman airport) straight to West Yellowstone, skip the Bear Trap for the reasons already mentioned, and camp and fish the...

Re: Upper Yellowstone drainage snowpack at 158% of average..

I know exactly what you're saying, seriously! And being on the river at 10,000 below town is also not for someone with a high life expectation, in my already long life opinion.:)

I'll let you...

Re: Upper Yellowstone drainage snowpack at 158% of average..

The Upper Yellowstone snowpack is now reported this morning at 160% of avg. I look at all of Montana's watershed data practically every day or 2 all winter, and this is the highest I recall that it...

Re: Upper Yellowstone drainage snowpack at 158% of average..

When we had the high water several years ago, the first guys on the Yellowstone caught some impressive brown trout. Sorry to say that I was a couple days late getting on, but still had some very...

I have no first hand knowledge of their trade up program, but I have used the trade in program at Anglers Habitat in Caldwell, ID on a couple occasions.

The difference in Anglers Habitat's program...

You didn't say where you are fishing streamers. However, a lot of time trout in streams and rivers are not holding in the deepest water and pools when they are feeding or looking for an...

Re: The world is passing me by

The biggest difference between 2 and 4 pc rods is that you'll catch more fish with 2 pc rods.

Why? Because you'll spend more time fishing and less time assembling the rod, reattaching and...

Enjoyed your video. It's good to see there's still some water and fish left in the river. Things were getting pretty low when we left at the beginning of October.

Looking forward to seeing your...
