Re: SAGE 1800 at Cabelas

I have an 1880 for my 8wt surf rod and I agree that it has more drag per dollar than any other reel. It also runs smooth. I will try not to drop it though, but at that price you could buy two and...

Re: Some general St Croix rod info

Am I reading correctly that the Avid is softer than the Redington CT? And I consider the CT to be a noodle!

I have two St. Croix Legend Elite. One is an 8'-6" 4wt that I use for bluegill, etc. It...

Re: LA reels under 4.5 Oz?

My choice would be a Hardy Ultralite 4000cc if you don't mind a clicker. The small drag from the clicker is adjustable using the drag nob. It weighs hurt a bit over 4 ounces and has a diameter of...

Re: Looking for some opinions on a rod

I have a St. Croix Imperial 4wt in the 8'-6" length and it is my go to 4wt out of 3 other 4wts. (in a similar price range) that I've passed along to my sons.

Hardy Ultralite! I own 3 and love them. Smooth, lightweight, precision performance and they look good!

Re: Lamson Liquid vs Echo Ion

Haven't touched either one, but the Ion series gets poor reviews at Cabelas.

Re: Question about rod and reel cases

I have both types and prefer the separate sock to the partitioned tube. I think the socks protect better & I have trouble fishing the pieces out of the partitions.

Re: Backpacking tents?

For backpacking tents, your two best sources are Six Moons Designs (mentioned above) and Henry Shire's Tarptents. Almost anything else is a car camping tent. This coming from an ultra light...

Re: Fly gear that should cost double or more?

How about Okuma SLV reels. At $50 or so, they spin just fine, the drag is smooth and engages gradually. As long as we're not talking saltwater species or Loch Ness monsters, I can't see them not...

Re: Fly gear that should cost double or more?

I can tell that this is going to be a great thread! Thank you for starting it, saflyfish. After we're done here, we can start a thread on what should be HALF the price it is, lol 😨

Been there also. I love history. Thanks to the people that had the foresight to preserve some of it, down through the ages.

Re: winston passport or Greys streamflex gs2

I have both in 9', 5 wt and prefer the XF2. They are very similar rods. Both are medium to medium fast and bend well down into the rod. There are two differences that cause me to prefer the XF2.

Re: Furled leaders and tippet rings... What am I missing here?

I'm glad all this is being discussed because I have the same questions.

As to the tippet rings, I've been tying a perfection loop in the end of my leader and the tippet, then connect them with a...

Re: Remote/hard to get to fishing

I actually came to fly fishing to expand on my love of backpacking. So for me, the hike in is as enjoyable as the fishing. Truth be told, I'm a much better hiker than I am a fisherman.
