Re: Looking for a 6 wt

Big fan of the Redington Predator, here too, though I have the older brown model, pre-Sage acquisition. (Actually, I own two, having gone clearout shopping for a backup when the newer version was...

Re: Best Coldwater Fly-Fishing Blogs?

In total agreement, Ard. A look at what's new on The Fly Fishing Forum is always near the top of my daily surf list. Great stuff, here.

Thanks for keeping it that way.

Re: Best Coldwater Fly-Fishing Blogs?

Re: LMB at night

Full moon tonight...

I second the big black poppers recommendation. It may seem counter-intuitive, black in the dark, but at night all the bass are seeing from below is silhouettes. Black makes...

Re: GoPro or Point & Shoot

Great observations on the TG-2. The faster lens makes all the difference and with the image stabilization it handles low light quite well. A good example from this past weekend:

Re: Redington Predator 6wt 7'10"

I have a 6wt, older, first-generation, Predator - brown, pre-Sage acquisition, love it - and throw a 7wt Scientific Angler Mastery Series Bass Bug line with it. The combination works fine for me. I...

Re: GoPro or Point & Shoot

Big fan of the TG-1, here. Most of the photos on my blog (and all of the outdoors/fishing ones) are from it. TG-2 out now, I think, with minor tweaks to the original.

I just can't get myself...

Re: Redington Stuff..

I have two Redington rods that I love - a 4wt CPS (wish they still made these) and a 6wt Predator (the older, brown pre-Sage version). More fish have found their way to hand via these two sticks than...

Re: Redington Predator or TFO's BVK?

Both fine rods. I have a Predator 6wt and a BVK 7. To my feel they are substantially different. BVK is lighter and perhaps more of a "presentation" rod. The Predator is a bit of a heavier workhorse...

Re: Simms Taco Bag

Just loaded it up for a day on the Smith and realized that I also toss in my net and a light vest.

It's a pack mule.

Re: Best Waders: Simms Vs. Orvis

Glad to see all the G3 love. Just picked up a pair this weekend and can't wait to get them wet. Need to get that new look and smell off of them as quickly as possible.

Re: Simms Taco Bag

Love my taco bag. I usually toss in a pair of boots, waders, a couple of rod tubes (fits 4 piece 9" tubes just fine), and outerwear. Easy one-hand carrying for all the bulky items. Almost as...

Re: Odd or even number rods?

I think it all starts with your first fly rod. Mine was a 6wt. The next few were evens, a 2, 4 and 8, only because that made sense - expanding the arsenal wider early, in reasonable increments.

Re: Tappered leg fleece pants with pockets?

I wear the Simms Coldweather Pants under my waders these cold days. Fleece lined. A variety of pockets. Slick finish and cinch cuff for easy slide into waders.

And they look good enough to be seen...

Re: Bimini Twist: Backing To Fly Line

So the cool part about this is that you make the bimini's loop large enough to pass a fly line spool through, allowing you to switch fly lines quickly and easily without having to tie any knots or...

I went with the 580Ps and they are crystal clear. Made the choice for weight considerations more than anything. The Joses I have are pretty big - for complete coverage, not a fashion statement - and...

I have a pair of Joses with 580P ambers and they are incredible. I also have a pair of Maui Jim Stingrays with their HT lenses and they are fantastic in low light situations. Bottom line, good...
